Kingston upon Hull (c-enen-uk-KingstonUponHull, usually referred to as Hull, is a city and unitary authority area in the ceremonial county of the East Riding of Yorkshire, England. It stands on the River Hull at its junction with the Humber estuary, 25 miles (40 km) inland from the North Sea. Hull has a resident population of ( ). The Larger Urban Zone (LUZ) population stands at 573,300.Renamed Kings town upon Hull by King Edward I in 1299, the town and city of Hull has served as market town, military supply port, trading hub, fishing and whaling centre, and industrial metropolis.

Hull was an early theatre of battle in the English Civil Wars. Its 18th-century Member of Parliament, William Wilberforce, played a key role in the abolition of the slave trade in Britain.

The city is unique in the UK in having had a municipally-owned telephone system from 1902, sporting cream, not red, telephone boxes.

After suffering heavy damage during the Second World War, Hull weathered a period of post-industrial decline, during which the city gained unfavourable results on measures of social deprivation, education and policing. In recent years the city has embarked on an extensive programme of economic regeneration, reconstruction and urban renewal. The economic crisis since 2008 has caused some setbacks to these developments.

Hull has been the base for several notable poets, including former University of Hull Librarian Philip Larkin, many of whose poems were set in the city. Established tourist attractions include the historic Old Town and Museum Quarter, the Marina and The Deep, a city landmark. The redevelopment of one of Hull's main thoroughfares, Ferensway, included the opening of St. Stephen's Hull and the new Hull Truck Theatre. Spectator sporting activities include professional football and two rugby league clubs. The KC Stadium houses the football club and one rugby club.

The local accent differs markedly in its vowels from that of the rest of Yorkshire, and the rhythm of speech bears a similarity to that of Lincolnshire, to which it was briefly linked in the defunct county of Humberside.

Film Soundtrack is by the innovative club musician Moby: Richard Melville Hall Music Title: Not Sensitive His nickname Moby was given to him by his parents because of an ancestral connection to the Moby Dick author Herman Melville being his great-great granduncle. Its ironic that we have been given permission to use one of Mobys music tracks over clips and archive footage of St. Andrews Dock Hull England were in 1955 Warner Bros. Studios chose the dock to be the home for fitting out of the Hispaniola the ship which had been used in the film Treasure Island. When it left fully refurbished it had been turned into a whaling ship with many new fittings and renamed the Pequod and went on to carry Gregory Peck as Captain Ahab in the 1956 film Moby Dick. The fit out was a fine testimony to all the trades associated St. Andrews Dock Hull. Moby was one of the most controversial figures in techno music, alternately praised for bringing a face to the notoriously anonymous electronic genre, as well as being scorned by hordes of techno artists and fans for diluting and trivializing the form. In either case, Moby was one of the most important dance music figures of the early '90s, helping bring the music to a mainstream audience both in England and in America. Moby fused rapid disco beats with heavy distorted guitars, punk rhythms, and detailed productions that drew equally from pop, dance, and movie soundtracks like an updated version of the James Bond Theme used for the Bond film ...

Something different to my usual videos. Here we take a trip across the Humber Bridge. It's now the 5th largest single span suspension bridge in the world. The other 4 are i believe are in China & Japan. The bridge spans the river Humber& replaced the ferry that use to cross the river Humber from Hull (Kingston upon Hull) to Hew Holland. So in the video we are crossing the bridge northbound from the county of North Linconshire to the county of East Yorkshire. When the camera pans round to the right, you are looking in the direction (east) towards the city of Kingston Upon Hull. Once nearly across the bridge we pan left to see the A63 which joins the M62 motorway. This road connects the city's of Hull on the east side of the UK with the City of Liverpool on the west side of the UK. we end the video clip with the bridge toll area & the bridge control buildings. For more info on this bridge see: www.humberbridge.co.uk For some night photo's of this bridge: photosbyiain.fotopic.net
