Colchester United Football Club is an English football club based in Colchester. The club was formed in 1937, and briefly shared their old Layer Road home with now defunct side Colchester Town who had previously used the ground from 1910.

Colchester United are perhaps most famous for beating Don Revie's Leeds United 3 2 in the 5th round of the FA Cup in 1971. Their highest ever league finish was achieved in 2006 07, when they ended the season in 10th place in the Championship, above East Anglian rivals Ipswich Town, Norwich City and also Essex rivals Southend United while having the division's lowest attendance.

Colchester United Ladies are a very successful part of the club, having won promotion to the FA Women's Premier League Southern Division in 2006 07.

On Tuesday 15th March a new Astroturf pitch for St Aubyns School was officially opened by Mark Noble of West Ham United . The event included an Under 9 football coaching event supported by 'Technical Soccer Coaching', a local McDonald's restaurant and West Ham United. Kevin Lisbie of Millwall FC was also in attendance to support the event.School children from around Essex took part in the coaching session run by Technical Soccer Coaching staff and West Ham United Academy staff. The proceedings came to a close with a friendly match between an Essex School's U9's side and St Aubyn's School U9's. Mr. Lander, who organised the event said, "It is great that we are able to draw on local expertise to enable our pupils to develop further. It is even greater when we share that with other gifted and talented players from across the county". Ian Yuill, West Ham's Academy Coach and Technical Director at the Technical Soccer School, said, "We are very excited to partner with St. Aubyn's School. The new astro turf and sporting facilities are second to none and offer the perfect environment to encourage creative and confident young footballers and athletes alike" Click here for full story
