Saint John (French: Ville de Saint John) is the largest city in the province of New Brunswick, and the oldest incorporated city in Canada. The city is situated along the north shore of the Bay of Fundy at the mouth of the St. John River. In 2006 the city proper had a population of 72,043. The population of the Census Metropolitan Area is 126,132, the second largest CMA in New Brunswick behind Moncton.
The "Saint" in Saint John is not normally abbreviated in order to distinguish it from St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, whose name features the abbreviation. The river however, is abbreviated St. John.
