Aside from the nuclear crisis, officials in Japan are now turning their focus towards delivering crucial supplies and aid to the worst affected areas. But with almost half a million people left homeless, the future seems bleak. Al Jazeera's Harry Fawcett reports from Morioka in Iwate Prefecture.

So the orientation for my teaching job has finished in Tokyo, and the next stop was actually going to Iwate! Before I can settle down in the city of Hanamaki, I needed to have another orientation in the capital of Iwate: Morioka. It was a really awesome city and it is the largest city in Iwate. Also, Keterol made an amazing piece of music for this episode called "nightlife swan" which I think may be one of his best tracks yet. Join me next week for the first taste of my new home: Hanamaki City! So much has been happening lately, but slowly I will be able to address all of the exciting new developments in my life including what I do for my work here and what I've been up to in the downtime since Tokyo Swan. Until then, thanks for watching as always, and see you next time! Music in this episode: Iwate Swan Theme: Keterol Nightlife Swan: Keterol

Sorry for the moving camera, haven't master filming and walking at the same time yet... It's been one week since the 8.9 earthquake on March 11th. This is some shooting of Morioka, which is one of the safest cities in Iwate in the earthquake/tsunami event.

Morioka in northern Japan is the capital of the Iwate Prefecture. I went there recently for a festival where they burn makeshift boats for Obon - the festival for honoring their ancestors' spirits. In this video I take a look at the city of Morioka itself and talk a little about its past and some of its sites.
