|} is a city in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. It has been one of the largest and most important seaports of Japan since the Medieval era.

Following the February 2005 annexation of the town of Mihara, from Minamikawachi District, the city has grown further and is now the fourteenth most populous city in Japan, with 833,414 residents as of 2007-05-01.

The current city was legally founded on April 1, 1889 according to the laws of Imperial Japan. Sakai became a designated city in April 2006 giving it a greater measure of self-determination in governmental affairs. It is divided into seven districts.

Sakai is known for its keyhole-shaped burial mounds, or kofun, which date from the 5th century. The largest of these, Daisen Kofun, is believed to be the grave of the Emperor Nintoku and is the largest grave in the world by area. Once known for samurai swords, Sakai is now famous for the quality of its kitchen knives; most high-quality Japanese cutlery originates in Sakai, and its production is a major industry in the city.

Here is my latest video of my Japanese Model Railway Layout which is named "Sakai" that is located in Osaka in the Kansai Area. This video is formatted in 16:9 as I filmed this video with my video camera instead of using my Digital Camera like I usually do with most of my Model Railway videos. The trains running on the local lines are my MicroAce Series 103 Osaka Loop Line EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) in Orange Livery, Kato JR Series 787 "Relay Tsubame" Semi-Fast EMU in dark grey livery. This unit looks similar to a Class 90/DVT with a BMW bonnet at the front on the driving cars. I know this particular unit doesn't run in the Kansai Area, but I got it for my layout because it looks stylish and I like it. The trains running on my High Speed Lines are the Tomix JR Series 100 (JR100) "Tokaido/Sanyo" Shinkansen 4-car set and my Tomix JR Series 700 (JR700) "Hikari Railstar" 8-car Shinkansen set. Just to clarify for those of you that don't know, the Shinkansen actually means Bullet Train in English, or atleast this is what I have been told. Comments & Ratings Welcome!

Here is my most recent video of my N Scale Japanese Model Railway Layout that I am slowly building. As you may see, more progress has been made on the trackwork as the train yard is nearly complete. The Layout is named as "Sakai" as it modelled in the Kansai Prefecture in Japan near Osaka. There is two signal box towers on the layout with one overlooking the yard near the level crossing and the other one is "disused" at the station. When I get some cork sheets, I intend to board up the windows on this signal tower to make look more authentic. There is only two trains in the sidings as I am currently changing the trains around for the "Spring" timetable, these are a Dapol Class 153 in East Midlands Trains livery and the other train is a British Steel Class 60 numbered as 60006 by Bachmann Graham Farish. I just need one more point for the yard and its complete. The two shorter sidings will host the planned depot for the locomotives that are allocated to Sakai while the longer sidings will house the mutiple units and the railcars that are longer than three cars. Other details are that there is two road plates near the level crossing as I am using these for evaluation purposes on the layout for the town and for the road vehicles to make the town more interesting. These road plates are made by Cars Workshop and they came with the Dennis Trident Bus that is in the KMB livery (this is the gold coloured bus in the video), the Bus Stop and the Traffic Lights that are shown on the ...
