Siri Fort, in the city of New Delhi, was built during the rule of Ala-ud-Din Khalji of the Delhi Sultanate to defend the city from the onslaught of the Mongols.

It was the second of the seven cities of medieval Delhi built around 1303 (stated to be the first entirely constructed by Muslims), which at present is seen only in ruins with a few remnants (pictured)

Near the Siri Fort ruins modern auditoriums, the Asiad Games Village Complex and residential and commercial establishments fill the modern landscape between the Khel Gaon Marg and the Auro Bindo Marg in the heart of South Delhi.

India will host the commonwealth games next month. Up next, we have a sneak peak at one arena that will host squash and badminton. The Siri Fort Sports Complex will host the squash and badminton events during India's Commonwealth Games next month. The venue beams with gleaming interiors, and a four-sided glass court that can be expanded into a doubles court automatically. The squash arena has 11 singles courts that can convert into five doubles courts and one show court, while the badminton stadium houses five match courts and three practice courts. The newly created Siri Fort Badminton and Squash Stadium in the complex has an Australian design. [AK Maheshwari, Director, Siri Fort Sports Complex]: "World-class buildings have been made, a world-class sports arena has been made for the squash and badminton, which will go a long way." The complex will also be the training venue for badminton, squash, lawn tennis and aquatics. [AK Maheshwari, Director, Siri Fort Sports Complex]: "This complex is such a complex, which is most widely sought in Delhi and at present more than 10000 members are there on this complex, who are using the facilities and the coaches, teams, etc. are also there." The sports arena is also eco-friendly. The 'green' aspects range from rainwater harvesting, solar heating system, re-use of treated water for horticulture, and double-glazed windows. The 2010 Commonwealth Games will be held from October 3rd to 14th in New Delhi.

The Reveille, the rouse, the charge, the retreat - there is a different piece of music for every action of the army, and when you take the band out of the battlefield and put them on a stage, the spirit continues to be the same.
