Spanish people (or Spaniards) are a nation and ethnic group native to Spain. Within Spain, there are additionally a number of regional nations, reflecting the complex history of Spain. They also form a significant diaspora, the result of Spanish colonialism and emigration, with Spanish communities established around the world, most notably in Latin America.
The official language of Spain is Spanish (español or castellano), the standard language based on the mediaeval dialect of the Castilians of central Spain. There are several regional languages; with the exception of Basque, the languages native to Spain are Romance languages, of Roman origin.
