In 1998 he was elected State Representative of the 95th District, and was reelected in 2000, 2002, and 2004, Hultgren was succeeded by Mike Fortner. Hultgren was elected in 2006 to the Illinois State Senate in the 48th district, succeeding Peter Roskam who was elected to the United States Congress. He was reelected State Senator in 2008. On September 28, 2009, Hultgren announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination in Illinois' 14th congressional district seat in the U.S. House of Representatives and won the party's nomination in the February 2nd primary election. Hultgren will run against incumbent Democrat Bill Foster for the congressional seat on November 2, 2010. |
