Cobb County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. Its county seat and largest city is Marietta, which is located in the center of the county. The county was named for Thomas Willis Cobb, who in the early 19th century was a United States representative and senator from Georgia. Marietta was named for his wife, Mary.

Cobb, along with several other counties in the same bill, was created December 3, 1832, by the Georgia General Assembly from the huge Cherokee "county" territory - land northwest of the Chattahoochee River which the state confiscated from the Cherokee Nation and redistributed to settlers via lottery, following the passage of the federal Indian Removal Act.

As of the 2000 census, the population was 607,751. The county's population has continued to grow. The 2009 estimate from the U.S. Census Bureau was 714,692 people. The county is part of the original and core (five-county) Atlanta metropolitan area, which is included in the AtlantaSandy SpringsMarietta, Georgia metropolitan statistical area.

The U.S. Census Bureau ranks Cobb County as the most-educated in the state of Georgia and 12th among all counties in the United States. It has ranked among top 100 wealthiest counties in the United States.

A segment from Michael Moore's TV Nation (1994) in which Mike takes note of the fact that Cobb County, Georgia, home to outspoken "big government" critic Newt Gingrich, is the third largest receiver of federal funds. The show then tries to relieve Cobb County of government interference by closing its federally funded highways, schools, sewer system, and senior center. This video is not meant to infringe on any copyrights, but to share this amazing show of Moore's with those who didn't catch it the first time around on television, especially as TV Nation has not been made commercially available to purchase.

This video was edited together by me with love, not just to share the mourning of our family and friends, but also to celebrate the life and journey of my brother, Mike, who was loved by so many. It seems that so many families and friends never get together enough, and only come together when a loved one has passed. It's sad when it takes the loss of someone we love to bring us all together, but that seems to be the way it is in life, when maybe we should all get together before it's too late. Not only when it's time to say goodbye. I'm sure some may have wondered why I was shooting video that day, and most never knew that I was a broadcast professional and that it was what I did for a living, maybe even thinking that I was feeling no pain, but that's not true. I loved my brother very much, and that's why I did this tribute to him. Even in that time of sadness and loss for me, I felt I had to set aside my pain for a few minutes to capture what I knew could be a way for me to honor my brother's life here on earth, and that if I didn't capture the family and friends who were there to honor and pay their respects to Mike, who would? I was that guy! Creating magic through video and audio has been my passion in life for about 26 years now, and it's something I love, and is what I do best. If not for me, these moments in life that can be very sad can also be a time to reflect on the love and life of someone very special and dear to us all. I hope I was able to capture a time in ...
