Michael Miller's song, "Just A Dream Away" performed by John Denver to open the 1984 Winter Olympics from Sarajevo. Music by Michael Miller, lyrics by Monica Riordan. JUST A DREAM AWAY Music by Michael Miller Words by Monica Riordan When a dream is born, A dreamer has to live for more, Believing what he's never known, He stands alone... Where a chance begins, Wherever secret hopes pretend, Like daybreak on the darkest night, He'll see the light... It's Just A Dream Away, You'll know it when you're there one day, Keep reaching for the world somehow, There's nothing that can stop you now, Dream your way . . . dream it all. Years of hope within, Then feeling what it's like to win, This dreamer's gonna find a way, To see that day... It's Just A Dream Away, You'll know it when you're there one day, Keep reaching for the world somehow, There's nothing that can stop you now, Dream your way . . . dream it all. ©1977 -- Hook, Line & Singer Music, Inc. Phil Mahre has an emotional flashback to when he received his Olympic Gold Medal in Sarejevo, Yugoslavia in 1984. With 107 participants, the US only took home eight medals: four golds and four silvers. Phil Mahre took home a gold, and his brother Steve Mahre took home a silver. The Medalists were dominated by Russia (99 participants for 25 Medals, including Hockey) and East Germany (57 participants for 24 Medals) It was the first Winter games held in a Socialist country. At that time, Sarajevo was Beautiful, and Quaint and hospitable to all. Sarajevo is now in Bosnia-Herzegovina, and was largely destroyed in civil war with Serbia. Phil Mahre is shown here in Steamboat Colorado in 2006, where he was a pacesetter for the NASTAR National Race Competition.at Steamboat Colorado in March 2006. Phil is the winningest American ski racer in history. He announced in 2006 that he is considering racing again at the age of 50! Phil is a wonderful human being, who appreciates what he has received, and cares to encourage everyone to achieve their best. He gave a very real and emotional thanks to everyone who made his Gold medal possible. He thanks his fans and gives encouragement to the NASTAR National Racing competitors to follow the passion he shares with them for skiing. MUST SEE! I wonder if he is in Vancouver Right now for the 2010 Winter Olympics? Phil, are you there?

This is a music video of two songs written for the 1984 Sarajevo Winter Olympics sung by John Denver: "The Gold And Beyond" & "Just A Dream Away". The first song was written by John Denver and Lee Holdridge. The second song was written by Michael Miller and Monica Riordan - Thanks a bunch to Michael for the information! The video was filmed in Sarajevo in 1984 and the audio was recorded in the USA in the same year. I hope everybody can get inspired from these two songs and enjoy this year's Winter Olympics. Thanks for watching. On a snow crystal morning Some place close to heaven On the side of a mountain In a race for the sun In a matter of moments The dream of a lifetime is won There's a fire in the heart And it feels like the hunger The spirit is burning Consumed by the flame To be one of the best Of the best in the world is its name To be faster and farther Than anyone's ever before To be braver and stronger And truer and then even more To be all that you can be And all that youve ever longed for In the eyes of a mountain All people are equal In the eyes of all people Our souls can be seen In the course of our struggle We'll know what humanity means To be all that you can be And all that youve ever longed for We gather together To face one another We gather in silence And sing in the sun We gather in peace To go for the gold and beyond When a dream is born A dreamer has to live for more Believing what he's never known He stands alone Where a chance begins Wherever ...
