Triangle Television is broadcast on Auckland's government-owned non-commercial UHF channel from transmitters at Waiatarua, Pine Hill and Remuera since August 1998. The station is operated by an independent trust, which leases air time to programme providers on a first-come first-serve basis. Providers are allowed to air a limited number of commercials during their programmes and have complete editorial control over content. The trust claims these rules mean it "cannot be controlled by individuals or groups with their own agendas". Using an IP link provided by government-owned Kordia and a government-owned non-commercial UHF channel, the Triangle Television Trust broadcast a similar station across Wellington (operated out of Auckland) from 25 August 2006 to 31 March 2009. Triangle Stratos is broadcast nationwide on Freeview satellite channel 21 since October 2007, and it has subsequently become available on SKY TV channel 89 via Optus D1 and TelstraClear Cable channel 89 in Wellington and Christchurch. Triangle Stratos Trust owns and operates the station as a scheduled, free-to-air, twenty-four-hour, nationwide news and culture station. It also acts as a backbone broadcaster and content aggregate server for regional affiliates across the country. tvCentral (Matamata), East Coast Television (Gisborne), TVHB (Napier), CTV (Christchurch) and Channel 9 (Dunedin) are able to upload their own local programming for national exposure and download other programmes to supplement their existing schedule. |
