C4 is a television station operating in New Zealand and owned by MediaWorks New Zealand. C4 plays music around the clock and has some specialty music shows such as HomeGrown (New Zealand music show), Video Hits and Biggest Records Right Now. The channel was originally launched in 2003 as a replacement for TV4 which had been broadcasting since 1997. As C4 moved away from music programming in 2008 a second C4 was launched called C4 2, C42 was only available on the Freeview platform. At the end of 2010 an announcement was made that Mediaworks would launch a new entertainment channel branded as FOUR this channel replaced C4 frequencies while C4 then replaced C4 2 going back to it's roots of a music channel. As a result C4 is now only available on Freeview channel 9.

Allowing Iran's president to deliver Channel 4's Alternative Christmas Message will cause "international offence", the UK government has said. President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was shown telling viewers of the British TV channel "the general will of nations" was for a return to "human values". The decision angered some MPs, who branded him a "dangerous fanatic" with anti-Semitic and anti-gay views. Channel 4 said it had offered viewers an "alternative world view". The speech, in Farsi with English subtitles, was the channel's 16th alternative message and was shown after a brief introduction to Mr Ahmadinejad contextualising his views. In it, Mr Ahmadinejad congratulated the people of Britain on the anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ. He said that problems in society were rooted in the rejection of the message of the prophets of God, including Jesus. And he criticised the "indifference of some governments and powers" towards the teachings of "the divine prophets". However, a Foreign and Commonwealth Office spokeswoman said: "President Ahmadinejad has during his time in office made a series of appalling anti-Semitic statements. "The British media are rightly free to make their own editorial choices, but this invitation will cause offence and bemusement not just at home but amongst friendly countries abroad." Labour MP Louise Ellman, chairwoman of the Labour Jewish Movement, said: "I condemn Channel 4's decision to give an unchallenged platform to a dangerous fanatic who ...

George Galloway clashes with Hardcash producer over Channel 4's Undercover Mosque: The Return program British Muslims have reacted with dismay and disgust to Channel 4's Undercover Mosque program, which claimed to expose extremism in British mosques. Muslims have complained that the film was deeply irresponsible and will only increase Islamophobia and racial hatred in this country. The film has been denounced for focusing on a minority of extreme statements and blowing them out of all proportion, thus demonizing the entire Muslim community. It has also been condemned for its insinuation that British Muslims are being radicalized by Saudi Islam, when all the evidence points to the fact that they're being radicalized by British foreign policy. In a heated exchange on Press TV's the Real Deal program, David Henshaw, the producer who made Undercover Mosque, was challenged by host George Galloway MP. Galloway accused Henshaw of having a problem with Islam and Muslims and insulting them on the first day of Ramadan, as well as inciting non-Muslims against them. Henshaw said his film was just conveying the feelings of so-called moderate Muslims who believe their religion has been hijacked. The 11-minute exchange involved much finger-pointing and accusatory language and ended up with Galloway calling Henshaw a "hooligan". You can watch the heated debate on Press TV's website (www.presstv.com) under the "Programs" section: www.presstv.com
