Almost 50000 US military personnel are stationed in Japan, more than half on the island of Okinawa. But their presence has often been controversial. The Okinawa base is vital to the US in protecting its interests in Asia. But it is also important to Yukio Hatoyama, Japan's prime minister, whose popularity is plummeting in the polls and who badly needs to win a majority in the parliament's upper house elections in July.

Japan's next prime minister might be nicknamed "The Alien" for his prominent eyes, but it is his wife who claims to have had a close encounter with another world. "While my body was asleep, I think my soul rode on a triangular-shaped UFO and went to Venus," Miyuki Hatoyama, the wife of premier-in-waiting Yukio Hatoyama, wrote in a book published last year. "It was a very beautiful place and it was really green." Yukio Hatoyama is due to take office on September 16 following his Democratic Party of Japan's historic election win last week. Miyuki, 66, described the extraterrestrial experience, which she said took place some 20 years ago, in a book entitled Very Strange Things I've Encountered. Yukio Hatoyama, 62, is the grandson of a former prime minister. Miyuki, also known for her culinary skills, spent six years acting in the Takarazuka Revue, an all-female musical theatre group. She met the US-educated Yukio while living in America. With the nation apparently hungry for change, Japanese people are getting set to welcome a quirky first lady. Al Jazeera Laura Kyle reports on Japan's flamboyant future first lady.

The Dallas Morning News reprinted an article from The Washington Post written by Blaine Harden. This article was an editorial masquerading as a legitimate news article. The placement of just a few words morphed a news story to an opinion piece, exposing the bias of the American news media. A media dedicated to re-education and indoctrination and reporting the news subverted. In reference to the possibility of the Liberal Democratic Party not winning a majority of seats in the forthcoming elections, the article reported it as "throw the bums out." The slanted, bias article went on to evaluate current prime minister Mr. Taro Aso as being "tone deaf." - Excellent example illustrating the decline of the American news media. The Japanese Prime Minister's stepping down after just eight months in office. Yukio Hatoyama's resignation comes after he failed in his bid to move a US military base off the southern island of Okinawa. The PM faced growing pressure from within his own party to resign ahead of elections due in July. Hatoyama is the fourth Japanese Prime Minister to quit in as many years.
