WVIA-FM signed on in 1973. The building housing the transmitters for WVIA-FM and WVIA-TV was destroyed by fire on February 12, 2010; as a result, the station is operating at reduced power from Marywood University. WVYA is a satellite station for WVIA, located on the FM dial at 89.7 mHz, for northeastern and central Pennsylvania. Operations are housed at WVIA-FM's studios in Jenkins Township, Pennsylvania. WVIA-FM had operated a translator at 89.3 FM in Williamsport since the late 1970s. However, in 2001, it decided to open WVYA as a full-time satellite to serve more of the Williamsport area. The 89.3 FM translator is still used to improve reception in southern Williamsport. |
