Nanyang Sin-Chew Lianhe Zaobao ( ; literally "Nanyang Sin-Chew United Morning Paper"), commonly abbreviated as Lianhe Zaobao ( ; literally "United Morning Paper"), is the largest Singapore based Chinese-language newspaper with a daily circulation of about 176,000. Published by Singapore Press Holdings (SPH), it was formed on March 16, 1983 as a result of a merger between Nanyang Siang Pau and Sin Chew Jit Poh, two of Singapore's oldest Chinese newspapers. The paper establishes itself as a serious broadsheet with extensive local news coverage while international news tend to be largely centered on the East Asia region. especially China. Zaobao has an extensive East Asian correspondent network spanning Beijing, Chongqing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul and Tokyo. It is SPH's flagship Chinese daily, the only Chinese-language morning daily in Singapore.

The newspaper is establishing a regional presence for itself, with subscriptions for its print edition from Southeast Asia, China, Hong Kong as well as organisations such as the United Nations. Its regionalisation drive was given a shot in the arm especially when the online version of the paper Zaobao.com was launched on 1 January 1994 under the name of "Lianhe Zaobao Online". Today it serves as a news portal drawing news not just from the Lianhe Zaobao, but also from other Chinese newspapers in the region, numbering as much as 100 sources in total. Lianhe Zaobao is one of the few Chinese-language overseas newspaper which can be purchased in major cities of mainland China.

With little space to create new landfills, recycling has become an integral part of modern living in Taiwan. The country's trash recycling rate for 2009 topped many other more developed countries when it reached 45.49 percent, spurring the Singaporean newspaper, the Lianhe Zaobao, to publish a special report on Taiwan's recycling programs last Sunday. The eco-movement in Taiwan began in 1998, when the capital implemented a mandatory recycling program to regulate how people discard their trash. By 2002, an island-wide recycling law had been ratified, and eventually, by 2008, all 25 counties and cities in the country had their own recycling programs, all aiming for the goal of 100 percent recycling of all trash. There may be paper in plastic bags." Huang then brings her sorted recyclables to the bins in the break room. This greatly reduces the company's hauled waste. Follow us on TWITTER: twitter.com Like us on FACEBOOK: www.facebook.com During the Two Sessions, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) was asked to publish the truth of Wang Lijun. The mayor of Chongqing City admired that many police cars surrounded the US consulate in Chengdu. They were Sichuan Police, but a news spokesman for the Sichuan Government refuted this publicly. Wang Yang, CCP Secretary of Guangdong Province, was asked about the Wang Lijun incident by a Japanese journalist. Wang Yang evaded with the excuse of being the wrong interviewee. Moreover, Yu Zhengsheng, CCP Secretary of Shanghai, spoke about the corrupt officials on the Shanghai Delegation Open Day, which was thought to be directed at Bo Xilai. Therefore, it's predicted that Bo Xilai's prospect is not good. On March 5, Huang Qifan, Mayor of Chongqing spoke about the Wang Lijun incident publicly. When Phoenix TV interviewed him, he admired that he came to the US consulate, so as to cut off Wang Lijun. He also recognized many police cars with Sichuan license plates surround the US consulate in Chengdu. Huang Qifan: "It is said that there were many cars, and the photo shows they are Sichuan police. This kind of thing is normal in Sichuan." The Singapore Lianhe Zaobao newspaper reported, a reply to Huang Qifan's words, on March 7. The news spokesman of Sichuan Government expressed that he was not in Chengdu when the event happened. He didn't hear that before Wang Lijun fled to the US consulate, Sichuan Police ...

As aforementioned, Taiwan's recycling campaign has received much praise in Singapore's media for its resounding success. The coverage was also a signal for Singaporeans to expand their knowledge of recycling and conservation, concepts which have not gained much footing, there. Yet when volunteers began educating people in 2006 about the proper way to sort their garbage, more and more are joining the eco-conscious cause. The flaws of a convenient system It takes just a few steps for this resident to dispose of their waste: all she has to do is drop her garbage down a chute, and it travels directly down to her building's main dumpster. However, the convenience has led to a problem: recyclables often get thrown out with the general trash, because recycling bins are quite a distance from the homes. Resident, Hu Xiuqiong: "Sometimes when I'm throwing away garbage, I notice there are recyclables that don't belong in there. I really believe Singaporeans need to be educated more about recycling." Ineffective and ignorant This lack of awareness about environmental protection is clear once the recycling truck starts making its rounds: though serving several communities, little is collected. TC has the solution! In 2006, Tzu Chi volunteers came up with a solution: to promote the recycling initiative among neighborhoods, volunteers established recycling points in each of the residential complexes, to both educate and encourage people to sort their garbage.
