The problem is that "The Spy" recently signed off the airwaves and now exists as an online-only station run by longtime on-air personality and station manager Ferris O'Brien. This is one of the most bizarre radio stories I have heard in my four years of following the radio biz! According to Radio-Insight, OKC indie-rocker 105.3 The Spy has a twin brother. In other words, there are TWO stations in Oklahoma City referring to themselves as "The Spy" that are running similar formats. One FM, one online. 105.3 The Spy began as KSYY in 2002 with O'Brien as an on-air personality. In 2004, the Spy's first incarnation ended with 105.3 flipping to "La Indomable"--a Regional Mexican format. After the flip, a show debuted in KATT-FM 100.5 using The Spy name. The host of the show was none other than... Ferris O'Brien. Citadel and the Last Bastion Station Trust had reached an agreement to program 105.3 The Spy under a Local Marketing Agreement. That agreement was due to end soon. O'Brien's Spymedia LLC put in a bid to purchase the station from Citadel-LBST. The amount of the proposed purchase--$2 million. O'Brien says that he's not shutting the door on a potential future FM frequency. He said to The Oklahoman that he still thinks there's a chance he could get the deal closed with Citadel-LBST.
