Ion Storm Inc. (sometimes spelled ION Storm) was a Texas based developer of computer games founded by John Romero (a co-creator of the Doom franchise), Tom Hall, Todd Porter, and Jerry O'Flaherty, under the slogan "Design is Law". At the time it was founded, long before releasing a single title, it was an instant fan and industry darling for its collection of talent and promise of blockbuster games.

Ultimately, despite having produced several critically-acclaimed video games, Ion Storm never truly lived up to its hype, creating instead several famous missteps, late releases, and internal political turmoil. The rise and fall of the company is documented in great detail in the book Masters of Doom.

No doubt, in the Action Role Playing Game register, one of the most ambitious game created, produced and published in the last decade... An outstanding & vertiginous gaming experience (released in 2000 on PC and in 2002 on PlayStation 2, the version - then renamed 'Deux Ex: The Conspiracy' - this cinematic is coming from) brilliantly mixing First Person Shooter and Role Playing Game genres... A gorgeous, unforgettable performance, an unequaled achievement... An amazing gaming performance, that we mainly owe to Warren Spector & Harvey Smith, proposing a truly opulent background (really pertinently conceived & written), a gripping storyline, nicely nuanced characters, plentiful & smart dialogues and, most of all, offering a clever & fabulous alternative (still present and unique) to common FPS productions. Although now 10 years old (graphically obviously dated), through its narrative & gameplay depth, through its storyline, through its Sci-Fi/anticipation world, 'Deus Ex' will still seduce mature gamers looking for immersive & nonlinear titles, especially people appreciating productions more or less/here and there prettily influenced by some games as Bullfrog's 'Syndicate', Valve's 'Half-Life' and films backgrounds as John Carpenter's 'Escape from New York' or Ridley Scott's very popular & mythical 'Blade Runner'...
