Carbon County is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. As of 2010, the population was 65,249.

Carbon County marks the northern border of the Lehigh Valley region of the state and is considered part of the state's Coal Region, though the eastern and northeastern section is considered part of the Pocono Mountains region. Most consider lower Carbon County, including Palmerton and Lehighton areas, as part of the Lehigh Valley in spite of being north of Blue Mountain.

Its county seat is Jim Thorpe.

10:30 AM - 12/13/2009 - (Carbon County - Franklin Township - Parryville, PA) The morning rain turned area roads in Carbon County to ice skating rinks. Two Penn DOT plow trucks slid in to the guide rail at the turns on route 209 near LaRose's Skating Rink in Franklin Township. The stuck plow trucks closed route 209 in both directions for an hour. Franklin Township Police closed the highway. Right after that incident a car slid and hit a house at 30 Canal street in Franklin Township. No injuries occurred in the accident and the car had severe front end damage. Franklin Township Police investigated the accident. Moments later a Penn DOT plow truck hit the rear of a skidding mini-van on route 248 in Parryville. The plow of the truck hit the rear of the mini-van shattering the rear window and causing damage to the vehicle. A passenger in the van suffered a neck injury and was take to the Palmerton hospital by the Lehighton Ambulance. The Parryville fire department responded to the call and the scene was cleared at 11:32 AM. 11:45 AM, Stuck Penn DOT plow truck at 3050 Long Run Road in Franklin Township. Franklin Township Police were responding to a stuck vehicle. The police officer was glad to see the Penn DOT plow truck arrive. Until it slid on the ice covered road and got stuck and closed Long Run Road for 45 minutes. The plow driver used his load of salt to get going and the road reopened. I pity the Franklin Township police officer. All this in two hours and within five <b>...</b>

7:28 AM - 12/27/2009 - (Carbon County - Franklin Township, PA) Route 209 in Franklin Township had to be closed for a two car crash with injuries. The cause of the accident was a result of black ice on the roadway. A south bound Chevrolet Monte Carlo lost control on ice coated roadway. The car slid sideways and struck a north bound Saturn SUV. After impact with the SUV the Monte Carlo struck the guide rail and went back across the north and south bound lanes and came to a stop. The driver of the Monte Carlo sustained injuries as a result of the collision. The accident occurred just north of the LaRose's Roller Skating Rink. The Franklin Township Fire Police closed the roadway until the accident scene was cleared and waited for Penn DOT to apply anti-skid material. Responding to the scene was the Franklin Township Fire Department, Lehighton State Police and the Lehighton Ambulance. An off duty Tamaqua police officer came upon the scene just after it occurred and assisted at the scene. Scene cleared at 9:00 AM.

12:28 PM - 01/02/2010 - (Carbon County - Penn Forest Township - Jim Thorpe, PA) A Toyota SUV lost control on a snow drifted Route 903. A women in the vehicle was ejected as it rolled in a field along the roadway. The Lehighton Ambulance was on scene quickly and had the women in their care and out of the winter elements. No word on the condition of the injured women who was taken to an area hospital. The accident occurred just past the Maury Road intersection. The area is well known for it's drifting snow from the fields along the roadway. State Police and the Penn Forest Fire Department responded to the accident. Penn Forest Fire Police handled traffic control on the wind swept stretch of Route 903. Penn DOT was called to plow Route 903 and the Maury Road of drifting snow. Year's ago snow fence was used to slow the drifting snow. Budget cuts at the state level stopped the use of snow fence. Scene cleared at 1:18 PM.

12:12 AM - 12/29/2009 - (Carbon County - Lehighton, PA) Lehighton police came upon an accident at Bridge Street and Summit Avenue in the borough. A pick-up truck driven by a female missed the turn from Bridge Street onto Summit Avenue and got stuck in a snow bank. Police saw a male at the scene in another vehicle who came to assist the stuck driver. He was not in better driving condition then the female who had the accident. Both were found to be intoxicated after field tests and arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. Police said the couple was having a domestic dispute. The driver of the truck stated to police, that she was run off the road by another vehicle. Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Blocker's Towing. Scene cleared at 1:02 AM.

4:39 PM - 01/10/2010 - (Carbon County - Franklin Township, PA) A mother and child in a car seat took a wild ride on Pohopoco Drive. The vehicle skidded sideways on the dry roadway and went over the guide rail. The car went down a forty foot embankment into the Pohopoco Creek. The mother and child were transported from the scene by ambulance to the Lehighton hospital. The car was leaking gasoline into the creek and waterway conservation officers were on scene to monitor the fuel spill. The Franklin Township Police are investigating the cause of the accident. Responding to the scene was the Lehighton Fire Department who then was replaced by the Franklin Township Fire Department when they came back from a turnpike call. Fire Police closed Pohopoco Drive until the accident scene was cleared. Also, on scene were the Franklin Township Police, DCNR officers, PA Fish Commission, Lehighton Ambulance and the Franklin Township Fire Police. Scene cleared at 6:00 PM.
