The Vice President of the Abkhaz Republic, an partially recognized state, internationally regarded as a part of Georgia, is the first in the presidential line of succession, becoming the new President of Abkhazia upon the death, resignation, or removal of the President. Additionally, the Vice President would assume the presidency in case the President becomes incapable of carrying out the presidential duties.

August 8 marks a year since the tragic events in South Ossetia. On that night, Mikhail Saakashvilis regime launched a cowardly and ruthless attack against its peaceful residents and against Russian peacekeepers, who had been for years guarding peace and security of the peoples living in the volatile region of the South Caucasus. In its aggression, Georgia widely used inhumane weapons, including cluster bombs, multiple rocket launchers and 500-kilogram bombs. As a result, hundreds of civilians and dozens of Russian soldiers, including peacekeepers, were killed in Tskhinval and surrounding villages. The number of those wounded and otherwise harmed is much greater. Many of the bodies have not been identified to this day. The scale of ruin was truly terrible. The vast number of casualties and thousands of refugees indicate that this was not a mistake or an accident; this was a well-planned crime, as is clearly evidenced by the documents that were found on captured Georgian officers, including the notorious Clear Field plan. People in Russia and around the globe recall the events of last August with anger and pain. They mourn together with the people of South Ossetia. They remember those who were killed. //////////////////The South Ossetian war could have been prevented last summer, according to Vitaly Churkin, Russian Ambassador to the UN. Speaking Friday at the meeting of the UN Security Council, Churkin said prior to the outbreak of hostilities, the Organization for ...

The amazing and tragic events in South Ossetia in August 2008 seem to baffle most Western experts. While a majority of them fall back on the 'safe' position of blaming Russia for everything others, in particularly on the Left, appear to be rather unsure of what to think of all this; many basically ignore the issue altogether. In contrast to the Leftist blogosphere or to the free and independent press, the corporate media immediately understood that this was, yet again, a perfect opportunity to prove to its political and corporate masters what a loyal propaganda tool it is. While CNN basically used an 24/7 'open mike' policy towards Saakashvili, the rest of the US and European media uniformly bought into the Us Media and Bush administration propaganda on the causes and effects of this conflict. This purely ideological approach to the unfolding crisis ended up blinding almost everyone to the real nature of what is going on. The first sign that something radically new was happening could have been noticed in the tone, if not the words, of the TV address of President Medvedev to the Russian people on the day of the Georgian attack. Though his words were carefully chosen, and his statement short, one could clearly sense something new in the demeanor of this otherwise rather restrained, if not withdrawn, technocrat. What one could clearly perceive was Medvedev seething sense of deep anger. The second, and even more amazing, speech which clearly showed what the Russians were ...

The war in South Ossetia was a war of medieval atrocity unleashed by a country whose culture is based on Orthodox Christianity, a country claiming to be "a young democracy" and seeing itself as part of the "humane" Europe. The aggression launched by the current Georgian regime and its puppeteers *is marked by extraordinary cruelty and cynical lies. *Georgian authoritarian Saakashvili would have never dared to do what it did without the support of some Russophobe politicians in the West Even in Ancient Greece, there was an understanding that wars can be fair or unfair. The civilized West, part of which Georgia is trying to be, is obsessed by human rights and believes to be superior to the Greeks, but this does not prevent some (Georgia) from perpetrating genocide and others ( some leaders in Europe and the US, plus most OF THE WESTERN MEDIA) - from encouraging the aggressor. The analysis of the way the aggression began - without a formal declaration of war - and of the overall conduct of the Georgian leadership makes one ask a number of questions. One of them is: can a crazy fanatic be regarded as a human being? The answer is - definitely not! The crimes committed in South Ossetia - the killings of women, children, and senior citizens, the deliberate extermination of civilians - are instances of inhuman conduct. Specialists in ethical anthropology (Boris Didenko) either explain this type of behavior by brain disease or attribute it to the specifics of conduct of super ...
