www.un.org see the link above For the video: Georgia, addressing UN debate, speaks out against new dividing line sep 24 2009. www.un.org MIKHEIL SAAKASHVILI, President of Georgia, said that sometimes the most extreme tests of the United Nations lofty ideals arose in small, even obscure places, such as his own country, which, with fewer than 5 million people, had last month been invaded by its neighbour. However, despite Georgias small size, the legal, moral, political and security implications raised by that invasion could not be larger in their consequence, as those issues lay at the very heart of the Organizations founding Charter. He said the invasion of his country not only violated its internationally recognized borders, but the subsequent recognition of the so-called independence of its two regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia challenged its territorial integrity, while the ethnic cleansing of hundreds of thousands of its people did violence to the very idea of human rights. Asserting that developments in Georgia presented the General Assembly with a general challenge, the Georgian leader asked if, in the face of such a challenge, the Assembly would stand up for its founding principles, or allow those principles to be crushed under what he called the treads of invading tanks. He urged the Assembly to refuse to stand silent in the face of armed aggression and assault on human rights, and instead stand united and immediately adopt a non-recognition policy towards ...

Dmitry Medvedev, the Russian Federations President announced that Russia had been preparing to wage a war against Georgia. He made this statement on December 24 in a televised interview with three federal channels. We were getting ready for this war. The result of this preparation was minimal losses in Russian army. Russian army destroyed Georgian military infrastructure. We avoided such actions of inhuman character, though, Medvedev stated. Medvedev alleged that he took the decision to start war against Georgia due to his personal attitude towards the Georgian government. Medvedev discussed the August breaking developments and provided with the Russian version of the Georgian-Russian war once again. Medvedev also talked about Russias foreign policy. He said some countries wanted to set sanctions against Russia that he would personally never tolerate. Nothing will impede Russias care for its national interests, Medvedev stated. Russian President also underscored that Russias reaction would be adequate and strict if Russian citizens living in any spot of the world, would face any threat. Russian president gave a testimony that Russia prepared for aggression against Georgia, Grigol Vashadze Georgian Foreign Minister stated today. He claimed during the briefing that the international commission studying the August events had to work based on this testimony to determine who the aggressor was. Russia is a country that belittles international principles and laws, Vashadze said ...

August 8 marks a year since the tragic events in South Ossetia. On that night, Mikhail Saakashvilis regime launched a cowardly and ruthless attack against its peaceful residents and against Russian peacekeepers, who had been for years guarding peace and security of the peoples living in the volatile region of the South Caucasus. In its aggression, Georgia widely used inhumane weapons, including cluster bombs, multiple rocket launchers and 500-kilogram bombs. As a result, hundreds of civilians and dozens of Russian soldiers, including peacekeepers, were killed in Tskhinval and surrounding villages. The number of those wounded and otherwise harmed is much greater. Many of the bodies have not been identified to this day. The scale of ruin was truly terrible. The vast number of casualties and thousands of refugees indicate that this was not a mistake or an accident; this was a well-planned crime, as is clearly evidenced by the documents that were found on captured Georgian officers, including the notorious Clear Field plan. People in Russia and around the globe recall the events of last August with anger and pain. They mourn together with the people of South Ossetia. They remember those who were killed. //////////////////The South Ossetian war could have been prevented last summer, according to Vitaly Churkin, Russian Ambassador to the UN. Speaking Friday at the meeting of the UN Security Council, Churkin said prior to the outbreak of hostilities, the Organization for ...

The amazing and tragic events in South Ossetia in August 2008 seem to baffle most Western experts. While a majority of them fall back on the 'safe' position of blaming Russia for everything others, in particularly on the Left, appear to be rather unsure of what to think of all this; many basically ignore the issue altogether. In contrast to the Leftist blogosphere or to the free and independent press, the corporate media immediately understood that this was, yet again, a perfect opportunity to prove to its political and corporate masters what a loyal propaganda tool it is. While CNN basically used an 24/7 'open mike' policy towards Saakashvili, the rest of the US and European media uniformly bought into the Us Media and Bush administration propaganda on the causes and effects of this conflict. This purely ideological approach to the unfolding crisis ended up blinding almost everyone to the real nature of what is going on. The first sign that something radically new was happening could have been noticed in the tone, if not the words, of the TV address of President Medvedev to the Russian people on the day of the Georgian attack. Though his words were carefully chosen, and his statement short, one could clearly sense something new in the demeanor of this otherwise rather restrained, if not withdrawn, technocrat. What one could clearly perceive was Medvedev seething sense of deep anger. The second, and even more amazing, speech which clearly showed what the Russians were ...

In mid-July 2008, the NATO and Georgia staged joint military exercises on the Russian border, which heightened existing tensions between Russia and the US-Georgia. Two weeks later, during opening of the Olympics in China, Georgia attacked civilians and Russian peacekeepers in South Ossetia, one of two Russian-allied, independent states within (Post-Soviet) Georgias borders. Russia counter-attacked - fulfilling its peacekeeping obligations. The US media correctly reported that Georgia had invaded South Ossetia. War ensued, soon joined by a full-scale propaganda war, as the US media promptly stopped reporting that Georgia had started the war, and began blaming Russia. Russia and the many in the West termed Georgias assault a Bush's war-by-proxy. A PLAN FOR, UH, PEACE As tensions escalated, a peace plan made between Russia and EU was forged by Saakashvili. The plan called for, among other things, a cease in hostilities and for both sides to return to their pre-war positions: Georgia in Georgia, and Russian peacekeepers in South Ossetia. Georgian president, Saakashvili, initially refused to sign the plan, because it was just a political document. At same time, (hoping to get NATO or US alone in his crazy war against Russia) Saakashvili noisily reminded NATO about its coalition obligations, by calling back the group of his soldiers, whom he cunningly send to Iraq prior his aggression against Russia. The Bush administration and turn Pro-Nazi Georgian Dictator upped the war ...
