MÄORI TELEVISION BRINGS HOME THE GOLD! MÄori Television has won a gold award for Best News and Current Affairs Promo at the Promax/BDA ANZ 2009 held in Sydney, Australia, from September 25-26. The Promax/BDA Awards, which are presented in each region, are regarded as the most prestigious awards for creative endeavours by promotion and marketing professionals working in electronic media. MÄori Televisions promotions department scooped top honours for its on-air promotion for the daily news programme, Te KÄea. Promotions manager Sheila Byrne says the aim was to promote that fact that the organisation now has reporters in the regions. We came up with the phrase our people are your people to encapsulate the fact that our reporters are out there amongst the people getting the stories that matter most to MÄori. We also shot the reporters out and about in the field and then in iconic local locations to get that real Kiwi feel.
