The village of Kupavna was first mentioned in the 14th century. Kupavna has had town status since 2004. The Holy trinity church built in 1751 has recently been reopened after being closed in Soviet times. There is a large textile factory in the town. The nearest station, Kupavna station, is 9 km away with trains to Moscow and Vladimir. local busses link the town to Moscow Noginsk and Monino On November 23, 2009 the former mayor of Staraya Kupavna, Anatoli Pleshan was convicted of taking a bribe (for assisting a developer with getting an approval from the residents for construction of a high-rise condo) and sentenced to 7 years in prison. |
