Reutov was founded in 1573 and granted town status in 1940. Reutov Was the site of development of Sputnik - first spacecraft in history, launched in 1957. The Research Centre, which produced the Sputnik was designated as POB 9; the director was Chelomey. It is separated from Moscow with MKAD and Nosovikhinskoye Highway, actually you just have to cross the street to get there. Now Reutov has the status of Science-town (Наукоград) and celebrates its birthday on the last Saturday of September. |
