|} is a prefecture of Japan located in the Kantō region of the island of Honshū. The capital is the city of Saitama.

This prefecture is part of the Greater Tokyo Area, and most of Saitama's cities can be described as suburbs of Tokyo, to which a large amount of residents commute each day.

UPDATE: TV Asahi said Friday, October 2nd 2009, it will continue airing the animation series of Crayon Shinchan adapted from comic books despite the death of original cartoonist Yoshito Usui. Usui, 51, was found dead last month on Mt Arafune that straddles Gunma and Nagano prefectures. The body was covered in bruises and no suicide notes were found near the body or in his belongings. Police said he may have fallen from a climbing path. Usui, 51, had been missing since Sept 11, after telling his family at his home in Kasukabe, Saitama Prefecture, that he would be hiking on the mountain and would be back by the evening.
