UPDATE: TV Asahi said Friday, October 2nd 2009, it will continue airing the animation series of Crayon Shinchan adapted from comic books despite the death of original cartoonist Yoshito Usui. Usui, 51, was found dead last month on Mt Arafune that straddles Gunma and Nagano prefectures. Our program will continue to feature the world view created by Mr Usui in his original stories which was shown in the animation series we have aired hitherto, a public affairs official of the TV station said. TV Asahi said it also aims to release a new Crayon Shinchan movie next spring. Crayon Shinchan depicts the everyday life of a feisty kindergarten boy Shinnosuke Nohara and his family living in Kasukabe, Saitama Prefecture, where Usui resided. www.japantoday.com A body found on a mountain straddling Gunma and Nagano prefectures was confirmed Sunday as that of Yoshihito Usui, cartoonist of the popular Crayon Shinchan series adapted for TV and film. Usuis family confirmed the identity of the body that was found by a climber on Saturday on 1423-meter Mt Arafune, Gunma prefectural police said. The body was covered in bruises and no suicide notes were found near the body or in his belongings. Police said he may have fallen from a climbing path. Usui, 51, had been missing since Sept 11, after telling his family at his home in Kasukabe, Saitama Prefecture, that he would be hiking on the mountain and would be back by the evening. His family contacted police the following day as he never ...

A tribute to the victims of the deadliest single air crash in history. Vocals by Leann Rimes - "Amazing Grace". Japan Airlines flight 123 was a Japan Airlines domestic flight from Tokyo International Airport (Haneda) to Osaka International Airport (Itami). The Boeing 747-SR46 that made this route, registered JA8119, suffered mechanical failures 12 minutes into flight and 32 minutes later crashed into two ridges of Mount Takamagahara in Ueno, Gunma Prefecture, 100 kilometers from Tokyo, on Monday 12 August 1985. The crash site was on Osutaka Ridge (ããããã®ãã, Osutaka-no-One), near Mount Osutaka. All 15 crew members and 505 out of 509 passengers died, resulting in a total of 520 deaths and 4 survivors. It remains the deadliest single-aircraft accident in history. The official cause of the crash according to the report published by Japan's then Aircraft Accidents Investigation Commission is as follows: 1. The aircraft was involved in a tailstrike incident at Osaka International Airport on 2 June 1978, which damaged the aircraft's rear pressure bulkhead. 2. The subsequent repair of the bulkhead did not conform to Boeing's approved repair methods. Their procedure calls for one continuous doubler plate with three rows of rivets to reinforce the damaged bulkhead, but the Boeing technicians fixing the aircraft used two separate doubler plates, one with two rows of rivets and one with only one row. This reduced the part's resistance to metal fatigue by 70%. According to the ...

Four couples - Cindy, me, Geri, Keith, Randal, Megu, Kai and Ayako - traveled to Gunma Prefecture just south of us for some serious onsen treatment. We stayed one night in a ryokan (Japanese inn) and visited four different onsen. The onsen in Kusatsu were high in sulfer and very hot, but damn was it cold outside (-7 degrees Celsius!). My favorite onsen was outdoors - a literal river of onsen shared by 50+ people.

Located off Route 33 near Mt. Haruna will you find one of Japan's (famed?) Melody Roads. Melody Roads are stretches of roads with grooves in it. Depending on the depth and cut of the groove, it can be arranged to make sounds from running over them. It's recommended to run over them at 50km/h to hear the song at normal speed. obviously, if you go faster or slower, it'll slow the tempo of the song. anyways, theres a lot more info about melody roads on wikipedia. BTW, i know its been a loooong time since ive up'ed a proper video. theres projects in the queue....its just a matter of putting it together. -sigh-
