The 105 mm Gun Full Tracked Combat Tank, M60, also known unofficially as the M60 Patton, is a first-generation main battle tank (MBT) introduced in December 1960. It was widely used by the U.S. and its Cold War allies, especially those in NATO, and remains in service throughout the world today despite being superseded by the M1 Abrams. Egypt is currently the largest operator with 1,700 upgraded M60A3s, Turkey is second with more than 900 upgraded units in service, and Israel is third with over 700 units of Israeli variants.

Chunwai Models asked RCTankHQ the review their latest all metal tank, we of course humbly agreed and what follows is a review of one fantastic tank. Mr. Chun has created a masterpiece in rugged design and suspension as well as electronic power. This tank offers a cut above the rest by supplying a Gigahertz Transmitter and a good supply of spare parts like track pads, links and fuses. The M728 Combat Engineer Vehicle was based on an M60A1 Patton MBT (Main Battle Tank) chassis with a hydraulically operated dozer blade mounted on the front, an A-frame crane hinged on each side of the turret and a winch. The vehicle can also be equipped with a mine clearing rake. The armament was changed from using the 105 mm M68 rifled tank gun used on the standard M60/A1/A3, to use an M135 165 mm short-barrelled demolition gun with 30 rounds of HEP (High Explosive, Plastic) ammunition, it is a license built copy of the 165 mm L9A1 gun that was used on the British Army's FV4003 Centurion Mk.5 AVRE (Armoured Vehicle Royal Engineers) tank. It is also armed with a coaxial 7.62 Ã 51 mm NATO M73 machine gun, with 2000 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, as well as a .50 cal M85 machine gun mounted on the commander's cupola, with 600 rounds of ammunition. 291 units were produced, the M728 was first deployed in 1965 during the Vietnam War. It was also used in Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm in (1990-1991). The vehicle was found to be too slow to keep pace with newer armored vehicles such as the M1 Abrams tank

In 1957, plans were laid in the US for a tank with a 105 mm main gun and a redesigned hull offering better armor protection. While the M60 Series which resulted largely resembled the M48 it was based on, there were significant differences: the M60 mounted a bore evacuated 105 mm main gun to the M48's 90 mm, had a hull with a straight front slope where the M48's was rounded, three support rollers per side to the M48's five, and aluminum road wheels instead of steel. The improved design incorporated a Continental V-12 750 hp air-cooled, twin-turbocharged diesel engine, extending operational range to over 300 miles (480 km) while reducing both refueling and servicing. Power was transmitted to a final drive through a cross drive transmission, a combined transmission, differential, steering, and braking unit. The hull of the M60 was a single piece steel casting divided into two compartments, with the crew in front and engine behind. Initially, the M60 had essentially the same turret as the M48, subsequently replaced with a distinctive "needlenose" design that minimized frontal cross-section to enemy fire. The M60 was the last US tank to mount a version of the M60 machine gun, be protected with simple steel armor, and have sufficient ground clearance to feature an escape hatch under the hull clearance. Originally designated the M68, the new vehicle was put into production in 1959, reclassified as the M60, and entered service in 1960. Over 15000 M60s (all variants) were ...
