WEBSITE: www.synergy-athletics.com STRENGTH MANUAL www.bullstrength.com ORIGINAL POST synergy-athletics.com Mark Watts, the strength coach at Denison is a great guy and gave us a tour of the facilities. The football team was coming in and got some explosive training in, followed by tire flips. When it was our turn to work out they got out the log...So we did log press, tire flip, axle deadlift, and kettlebell training. It wasn't quite as intense as last year when we squatted at Westside Barbell and Elitefts in the same day, but we were already beat. Strongman training for college athletes, including combat athletes like football , wrestlers , and even basketball players can benefit from exercises that varies resistance and makes them move in multiple planes of motion. Somehow I got a PR in double over axle DL, and we had a great time with the tires. Strongman Training For Athletes At Denison University I will save the kettlebells for the next video! Thanks to Mark and his staff for having us out, he was extremely knowledgeable as we got to talk shop for nearly 2 hours! Double tire flip included. - Joe Hashey, CSCS - Keywords: denison university, log press, mark watts, strength coach, strongman athletes, strongman football, strongman workout, football workout

Denison University Strength & Conditioning Hang Clean Progression Starting Position ie Ready Position Checklist Power Position ie Set Position Checklist Triple Extension Go or Hit Jump Shrug Catch Position Partner Assisted Elbows Up Quarter Squat Catch Drills Elbow Strikes Rack Transitions Partner Assisted Bar Drops Static Hang Clean Ready, Set, Go/Hit Cadence Olympic lifts are great tools to develop speed-strength and explosive power due to a rapid triple-extension movement in the second pull phase of most of the lifts. But, Olympic lifts are not the only method for building explosive power. Olympic lifts like cleans and snatches are specific skills. Being proficient at a power clean may not necessarily transfer directly to explosiveness on the field. The rate of Force Development (RFD) of the triple extension movement in general terms can have a positive correlation on similar triple extension type movements on the field. At Denison we always weigh the Risk-to-Reward Ratio on all of our lifts. Our biggest concern is safety, primarily in the catch or rack phase of the clean. We feel because of limited flexibility, improper technique and a lack of proper coaching; there are some postural positions we would like to avoid with this lift. Overall, we do not want our athletes performing the Olympic lifts without proper coaching, supervision or equipment. We feel there are alternatives with faster learning curves that can be implemented.
