Cowpunk or Country punk is a subgenre of punk rock that began in the UK and California in the late 1970s and early 1980s. It combines punk rock with country music, folk music, and blues in sound, subject matter, attitude, and style. Many of the musicians in this scene have now become associated with alternative country or roots rock.

a more motley collection of bad shirts, prison tattoos, greasy comb-overs, mullets and broken teeth you'd be hard pushed to find outside of a Dale Winton home video. Seen here live New Years Eve in Bournemouth

Here's another nugget from the alternative musical underbelly of San Jose, CA, circa 1985. This is an ultra-rare video of BIG HAIR, a cowpunk band that split off into some splinter groups, including FRONTIER WIVES, WHISTLING BULLETS and THE KETTLES. This is a great rendition of "Wild Thing" a 1965 song written by Chip Taylor, performed by The Troggs, Jimi Hendrix, Sam Kinison, and a lot of other musicians. BIG HAIR likes to call their version "Wild Thang." This performance is from aspecial event produced by KFJC Radio and IBS at the Works Gallery in San Jose on November 22, 1985. The video camera used was an old tube camera that really hated low-light situations, so there was a fair amount of tweaking to make this video presentable. ENJOY!
