The City of Clarence is a city and Local Government Area in Tasmania, Australia. Along with Hobart and Glenorchy, Clarence is one of the three cities that constitute the Greater Hobart Area.

The City of Clarence is located between the eastern shore of the Derwent River to the west, Pitt Water and the Coal River valley to the east, the Meehan Range to the north, and Storm Bay to the south. Being on the eastern shore of the Derwent River, it is located opposite to Hobart and Glenorchy, both of which are located on the western shore. Despite only being the 29th largest city in Australia in terms of population (51,072), it is the 9th largest city in Australia in terms of area (386 km2 or 149.0 sq mi). Despite this, more than one third of the city remains untouched bushland. The administrative centre of Clarence at Rosny Park is approximately 5 kilometres from the CBD of Hobart.

The City of Clarence is administered by the Clarence City Council, and is home to both the Hobart International Airport and Bellerive Oval. Rosny Park is the main commercial district in the east of Greater Hobart (featuring Eastlands Shopping Centre) and also the administrative centre of the City of Clarence.

The area that now constitutes the City of Clarence was once part of the traditional land of the Moomairemener, a sub-group of the Tasmanian Aborigines. In 1803, the island of Tasmania (then Van Diemen's Land) was colonised by United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, who subsequently established the settlement of Hobart Town. By the 1820s the settlement had spread to the 'Clarence Plains', but the area remained primarily agricultural until the mid to late 20th century, when it experienced a residential development boom. Since then Clarence has grown rapidly to become a self-sufficient city.

Nashville West includes: Clarence White, Gene Parsons, Gib Guibeau, Wayne Moore. There are a few records that can be considered birthplaces of what has become known as "country-rock." Two Gene Clark albums, Echoes and Fantastic Expedition, come to mind, as well as the Byrds' Sweetheart of the Rodeo and the International Band's debut. Add to that list -- and put it high up there -- Nashville West, a self-titled debut by a group that consisted of Gib Guilbeau, Wayne Moss, and two future Byrds, Gene Parsons and the great Clarence White, and it's White's awesome guitar work that puts this album in a legendary context. Aside from the revolutionary playing by White, the group has a forceful yet laid-back groove that, if you like it on the first cut, "Nashville West," will have you digging the whole record. Parsons' drumming has a slightly soulful edge, which predates the Flying Burrito Brothers' experiments by several years. One of the best cuts on the album is a cover of "Ode to Billy Joe," which has White and Parsons laying into a groove that is indescribably delicious. Ignoring the historical value of this CD, the whole record is a hell of a lot of fun. Vocally, not really what you'd call a masterpiece, but it doesn't matter -- Nashville West is a record that should be owned by any fan of the Byrds, the Flying Burrito Brothers, Dillard & Clark, and country music as a genre. Brilliant. ~ Matthew Greenwald

Small Stories Big Picture - 2010 Surry Hills, Sydney, Australia. A short film by Jamie Andrei. The event is a bike tour with a difference. Touring the design precinct & some lesser known parts of Surry Hills, participants are provided with a bike, a LOMO camera, map and passport to aid in their self-guided tour, documenting discoveries as they go along. During the tour stories are to be collected from bespoke retailers, cafes and designers who in turn stamp passports for discounts on return visits. The tour is part of the Sydney Design festival... "I took my video camera instead of stills to document a day out with friends & the spirit of the event. It is one of the best initiatives I have participated in, we had a great day meeting new people & getting to know a part of the city that we take for granted. Common courtesy, exploration & openness to your fellow man is still alive in parts of Sydney. This event really helps to re-enforce these social bonds. Really well done. I hope you enjoy my short film (which I have donated to the event for free useage for future promotions). Feel free to share & send the link to others" JA Click through to the websites below; www.smallstoriesbigpicture.com www.sydneydesign.com.au www.lomography.com.au www.clothfabric.com www.theberesford.com.au www.metalab.com.au www.cyclery.com.au www.jamieandrei.com.au http
