Blackpool Transport Services (BTS) is a bus and tram operator running within the boroughs of Blackpool and Fylde and into the surrounding area, including Fleetwood, Lytham St Annes, Poulton le Fylde and Kirkham, Preston. BTS is a limited company wholly owned by Blackpool Borough Council, which makes it one of the few remaining municipal bus companies in the UK today.The company's network was relaunched in April 2001 under the name Metro Coastlines. Along with the new name came a new colour-coded service: each core bus route was operated by vehicles painted in a livery heavily featuring that route's colour. There were twelve such core bus routes, and the historic tramway along the promenade also had its own variation of the livery.

On Monday 26th July 2010, Metro Coastlines branding was discontinued and the company went back to their Blackpool Transport days. Buses have had their Metro Coastlines logos removed and replaced with a new Tower and waves logo.

Before the July service changes there were 4 guaranteed Low Floor bus routes, Line 3, Line 5, Line 14 and Line 16. Line 2/2C, Line 4 and Line 7 were usually operated by low Floor buses (Line 2/2C and Line 4=Optare Solo, Line 7=Optare Excel) but sometimes had standard floor buses substituted. Line 11 was part Low Floor being part operated by a fleet of 9 East lancashire Dennis Tridents. Since the service changes most buses are low floor with only a small number of non low floor buses in use.

As well as much contemporary and archive footage of the trams in operation, the programme also includes comments from current and former employees who worked on the trams, and includes discussion about the difficulties involved in keeping a large number of pre-war trams in roadworthy condition. The famous "balloon cars" were acquired in 1934 and although they are, I believe, still in operation I think they are due to be withdrawn soon and just kept for special "heritage" services rather than ordinary duties. The film also looks at the wider question of the role of trams in public transport, and predicts that modern tramway systems will once again become part of our infrastructure in many cities.

In the video we see tram 700 'Balloon' emerge from the Fitting Shop in its new guise for future operations on the tramway. Fitted with a widened passenger platform and air entrance doors controlled via cctv from the driver. Taking its place in the Fitting Shop was 'Millenium' tram 709 for its transformation.
