The competition final phase was held at the Luna Park, Buenos Aires. Yugoslavia emerged as the tournament winner. After the final match, Yugoslavia's Vlade Divac took a Croatian flag from a fan, threw it on the ground and stamped on it. The incident put Divac on bad terms with most of the Croatian basketball players. This was the last World Championship in which the country participated before its dissolution. Of its successor republics, Croatia competed at the 1994 FIBA World Championship, while the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia was banned due to UN sanctions relating to its involvement in the Yugoslav wars. |
