Wenhaston is a small village of 818 people (2001) situated to the south of the River Blyth in northeastern Suffolk, England.

Roman coins, pottery and building materials unearthed in local fields indicate the existence of a settlement at Wenhaston from the 1st century AD, and indeed this was probably a market of some importance between 80 and 350 AD The first written record of its existence is to be found in the Domesday survey of 1086, when it was noted that the village of Wenadestuna possessed a mill, a church and woodland sufficient to feed 16 hogs.

The village's greatest historical treasure is undoubtedly the Wenhaston Doom, a 16th century (pre-Reformation) panel painting depicting the Last Day of Judgment. This rare work of art was discovered during restoration work in 1892, hidden under whitewash on the wooden tympanum taken down from above the chancel arch.

Today, the local community and economy of Wenhaston continues to benefit from its proximity to the Suffolk Heritage Coast and the flourishing resort town of Southwold. Wenhaston won the Suffolk Coastal Village of the Year 2004 competition and came second in the Suffolk County competition.

Wenhaston had a railway station on the Southwold Railway but this closed, with the rest of the line on 11 April 1929.

With Mells it forms the civil parish of Wenhaston with Mells Hamlet.

Not too bad. The last bit along the A12 is poorly signed. There's a crossing to help cyclists away from the heavy traffic on this narrow section of the A12 and allow them on the path. However, after a while it becomes very clear it's no longer a cycle path. No drop kerbs or markings. I suspect bikes are meant to go up the rough track almost immediately after crossing. Only it's not signed or for anyone but offroad bikes.

Sadly, at this moment, the Queen's Head in Blyford is shut otherwise I'd be doing this trip a lot more, although mostly after dark!

This is a high speed cycling recording from Wenhaston to Dunwich, one place shown on The Times "Most Beautiful Ride" in Thursday 23 February 2012 supplement. The paper's picture shows the derelict Windwill just up the coast form Dunwich and clearly visible south from Walberswick. After doing this journey I investigated the route in The Times "Most Beautiful Ride" from Dunwich up to Walberswick, mainly as the OS map shows half of it is simply a footpath, so not guarenteed a cycling right of way. Although please note, cycling is not necessarily banned, that is actually down to local bylaws (and it's not covered by the 1835 and 1878 "no riding on footways, essentially pavements next to roads). I discovered a few things that show up the lack of joined up thinking from several agencies. More of that later.
