WATCH THE VIDEO IN HIGH QUALITY!!! The following information is from a 2000 or 2001 article that appeared on a local (Williamsport based) website. I can no longer recall the name of the website. The information was provided by the Fagnano family. ********************************* MORE EARTHY TRIVIA. My challenge to you this week is: Just where did the earth and rock come from for the 13-mile flood control dike built in the 1940s and 1950s? Who moved mountains for the dike system around Williamsport in the 1940's and 1950's? The answer is in the Fagnano family history. Balante Fagnano, who was a general contractor at the time, acquired a subcontract to gather rock and earth for the dike project in 1940. The original contract for the dike project was in the hands of a man named Johnson (we believe was from New Jersey). He entered the navy prior to Pearl Harbor and sold the contract to Herb Allison, Frank Marrazzo and a third individual. Fagnano gathered stone and earth in 1940 and 1941. The Fagnano family archives features a photo taken in 1941 by the local historical photographer Vincent Smith. The photo features Balante, his brother Charles (real name "Angelo" who was killed in France in 1944 during World War 2), Balante's two sons, Joseph (left) and Louis (right). The men were loading rocks into their truck along the current Lookout on Route 15 while the young boys watched. World War 2 put a halt to the project from 1942 - 1945. When the project resumed in 1946, Fagnano ...

Tropical Storm Lee floods the Susquehanna River, which surged to a record crest of 42.66 feet in Wilkes-Barre and caused major flooding all over Northeast and Central Pennsylvania. Hundreds of thousands were evacuated. Thousands lost their homes. Millions of dollars of damage. These pictures are not mine, they were found on Facebook and have been put together to remember the tragic days of 9/7/11 - 9/10/11. My heart goes out to the people of Pennsylvaina, especially the Wilkes-Barre area. A place I called home for 14 years. In the coming days much help will be needed to ease the pain of the victims. I took advantage of a beautiful day to test out a new video camera at the new riverfront park. It's a great park, but I often wonder if we should just let the river alone and let it heal itself. Luzerne County, Panasonic Lumix GH1 Riverfest

Southwestern Energy Co. (NYSE:SWN) has been named in a lawsuit by 13 Pennsylvania families who allege that the company's drilling has contaminated their drinking water, according to a Houston Business Journal report. The complaint was filed on September 14 in the Court of Common Pleas of Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania. The company used fracturing in October 2008 on a gas well in Lenox Township. The lawsuit states that during the fracturing operations, Southwestern spoiled water wells by hydraulic fracturing, which is a process that uses blasts of water and chemicals to free natural gas from shale rock.SmarTrend alerted subscribers to take profits in Southwestern Energy on June 24, 2010 at $41.51, since then the stock fell 22.3%. We are now watching for any positive developments that could result in a new uptrend signal.

Residents of Susquehanna County and beyond came out in droves for a meet and greet picnic with Cabot Gas & Oil employees and key vendors. The even helped educate the public on the equipment and procedures used in natural gas cultivation and dispel some of the myths and misinformation about the industry. The event was a great success for everyone involved. For more facts and information, visit the Susquehanna Information page at www.cabotog.com
