Spanaway is a census-designated place (CDP) in Pierce County, Washington, United States. The population was 27,227 at the 2010 census. Spanaway is an unincorporated area near Tacoma, and is often identified together with the more urban, less wealthy Parkland.

Spanaway's main business thoroughfare is Pacific Avenue South, which is a north-south road that coincides with State Route 7 through the Spanaway area.

The song "The Needle Has Landed" from Neko Case's CD Fox Confessor Brings the Flood mentions Spanaway in passing. Tacoma alternative pop/rock band Seaweed also released an album entitled Spanaway. Long Island, New York band The Movielife also has a song called "Spanaway".

June 16, 2007. 6:30am. The 21500 block of Highway 7 in Spanaway, WA. The driver of the white F150 was at fault and died at the scene. Drugs or alchohol was not involved. It's believed that the driver had fallen asleep at the wheel or more than likely had some type of medical problem prior to the crash. CPR was peformed unsuccessfully. The driver of the Dakota was trapped. It took 20 minutes to extricate the victim. He had serious injuries, but will survive. The Washington State Patrol is investigating the accident.

Other family members went looking for the victim the next day and found the wreckage and victim. He had already passed. The Washington State Patrol investigated the accident. It is believed that the victim was on his was home and it was not known when the accident had occurred.

Somehow, the driver left the Mountain Hwy and kept a nice straight line right into the bay door. It appears that a customers truck parked inside the building kept the at fault driver from going any further. Power was shut off to the heavily damaged building. The Washington State Patrol investigated the accident and Central Piece Fire and Rescue responded. Traffic in the area was not affected.

The Bikers Fighting Cancer motorcycle club was holding a benefit concert at the bar and grill to raise money for families with children who are fighting cancer. Several different clubs attended the event. A member of the Ghostriders club arrived in a red station wagon, confronted a BFC member who had gone out to his motorcycle and shot him. The victim ran across the busy highway to get away from the shooter. Other BFC members and other attendees fought the assailant getting the gun away from him, and staying on top of the gunman until law enforcement arrived and arrested him. Central Pierce Fire and Rescue responded and transported the injured party who was shot in the arm and will survive. The concert continued while the Pierce County Sheriff and the Washington State Patrol investigated the shooting. A heavy police presence remained at the scene to prevent further violence.
