Reading Transport Ltd is a bus operator serving the towns of Reading, Newbury and the surrounding area in the English county of Berkshire. The company is wholly owned by Reading Borough Council and operates under the brands Reading Buses, Newbury Buses and Goldline Travel. As such, it is one of the few remaining municipal bus companies in the UK.

The history of the company and its predecessors dates back to 1878. Previous incarnations have been variously known as the Reading Tramways Company and Reading Corporation Tramways, and have been legally constituted both as companies and as departments of Reading Borough Council and its predecessors.

The Reading Transport network is served by a fleet of some 180 low floor buses, made up of a mixture of double deck and single deck vehicles of various sizes.

Just yesterday, Nokia took to the stage at Mobile World Congress to unveil its latest Windows Phone, the Lumia 610. Curiously, the company also surprised us with two new Windows Phone applications, affectionately known as Nokia Reading and Nokia Transport. We've since taken to the show floor and happened to grab demonstrations of both apps, each shown off by the creators themselves. Join us after the break as we explore Nokia's latest offerings. In the case of Nokia Reading, it combines an attractive RSS aggregator and an e-book reader into one application, which fits perfectly within the Metro interface. Users will be able to select from a number of pre-defined news sources (with Engadget among the mix), and search for feeds based on their interest, which is then displayed in an attractive magazine layout. The e-book portion of the app offers both portrait and landscape orientation, allows users to pin individual titles to the home screen for easy access and provides support for audio books. Perhaps most interesting about Nokia Reading, however, is the announcement of the company's own digital bookstore. It'll launch first in Spain, Russia, France, Italy, Germany and the UK, where in every case, local editors will be tasked to provide content that's both popular and relevant to the region. Symbian users are likely quite familiar with Nokia Transport, but the app has now found a new home on Windows Phone. With a heavy emphasis on public transit, it supports time-table ...

A totally unreal hat store called "Hats... to Where?" sells hats that transport customers to all parts of the world. LeVar whisks himself to the horse racetrack at Turf Paradise, to a model train display in Three Bridges, New Jersey, and to the Nassau Coliseum, where he gets a goal tending lesson from Kelly Hurdey of the New York Islanders. Zelda Rubenstein reads A Three Hat Day, a story about a man who loves hats very much, and how he meets his soul mate when he goes shopping in a new hat store.

Reading out a scam mail I received a few days ago: "Hi, My name is Elena, I have 31 year and I live in Russian province. I work in library and after my work I allowed to use computer when it possible. I finded your address in internet and I decide to write you this letter. I have 7 year daughter Angelina, her father abandoned us and we live with my mother. Due to crisis recently my mother lost job and our situation becomed very difficult. Price for heating our home very high and we cannot afford it anymore. Winter is coming and weather becoming colder each day. We worry if the temperature will become cold in our home, we don't know how survive. For heating our home we need portable stove which give heat from burning wood. We have many wood in our region, but we cannot buy this stove in local market because it cost equivalent of 193 Euro and very expensive for us. If you have any old portable wood burning stove, we will be very happy if you can donate it to us and organize transport of its to our address or help us to buy it in our local market. This oven are different, they are from cast iron and weight 100-150kg. I downloaded our picture to free website and you can see it at: elenadda.nextmail.ru [Note: contains no virus as far as I can tell] I hope to hear from you soon and I hope that our situation will become better in the New Year. Elena." Have you received any scam mail for Christmas? Post a video response :)

Paul Maynard MP for Blackpool North and Cleveleys questions Transport Minister Theresa Villiers on investment in the railways. Kicking off with a written question asking 'What plans she has for future funding for railway stations?' Paul is told of the major funding investments around the country including Reading, Birmingham New Street, Blackfriars and London Bridge. He is also told of the franchise reform - encouraging franchisers to invest in rail. Paul follows this up with a question on how long-term investment schemes will be handled as a yearly franchiser will not want to invest if they don't see the quick returns. Ms Villiers goes on to suggest taxpayers money can help with long-term schemes but the government is looking at new and better ways for franchisers to invest in longterm railway improvement projects. Being on the transport select committee, Paul is dedicated to improving the transport infastructrue of the UK. -- www.paulmaynard.co.uk http www.twitter.com

In the film "Bond of Fear" (1956) ex - London Transport bus STD 6 (DLU 316), a pre-war Leyland double decker, is featured for just over a minute of screen time. The bus was sold by London Transport on 22nd December 1954 and passed to the independent firm Smith's of Reading who operated quite a few ex-London transport vehicles in the 50s and 60s. Dermot Walsh stars in the film which concerns a family whose holiday is ruined when they encounter a murderer on the run. The film is available in the UK on dvd from Odeon Entertainment as part of their "Best of British" range of titles.
