Prestwick Golf Club is located in the town of Prestwick, South Ayrshire, Scotland. It is approximately 30 mi (48.3 km) southwest of Scotland's largest city, Glasgow. Prestwick is a classic links golf course, being built on the rolling sandy land that "links" the beach and the land further inland. The course is located near the Prestwick airport and some holes run along railway tracks on the eastern side of the course.

A warm welcome awaits you at Prestwick St Nicholas Golf Club (the 26th oldest Club in the world), a traditional Scottish links golf course established in 1851 and occupying a prime position on the shores of the Firth of Clyde on Scotland's west coast. The course and Club are steeped in history -- indeed one of its founder members was Old Tom Morris who was based in Prestwick prior to returning east to St Andrews and his place in golfing legend.

It was 17th October 1860 when the inaugural Open Championship was played on Ayrshire's links-fringed coast at Prestwick Golf Club. The 12-hole course laid out by Old Tom Morris in the 1850's saw the instigation of this great event and held it continuously for the following twelve years before sharing it with some of Scotland's other prestigious clubs. The line-up of players gracing the turf through those years and on into the 1920's reads like the Who's Who of the game's early days; Willie Park, the two Tom Morris's, Willie Auchterlonie, Harry Vardon and James Braid to name but a few.

At Prestwick, Pete and PB Dye have crafted a links-style masterpiece reminiscent of Dye designs. Over 1.3 million cubic yards of earth were moved in sculpting towering dune-like berms, stairway bunkers and bulkhead--protected greens. A dense pine forest, sandy waste areas and meandering streams and lakes frame the generous landing areas afforded the player from any of the six sets of tees.
