Mark Batson is an American record producer, arranger, and songwriter from Bushwick, Brooklyn, now based in Los Angeles. As a co-writer and producer with Dr. Dre, he is responsible for Jay-Z's 2006 single Lost One, as well as tracks for Eminem, 50 Cent, Game and Snoop Dogg. As a co-writer and producer with James Blunt, he is responsible for James Blunt's 2007 single 1973 (song). He has also worked with Dave Matthews Band, Alicia Keys, Anthony Hamilton, Nas, Maroon 5 and Beyoncé, among others. Batson was formally trained in jazz piano at Howard University, before mixing hip hop sampling and drum programming with live instrumentation as part of the group Get Set V.O.P. This blend is characteristic of much of his later production work. He and Dr. Dre have composed music for the feature films Bad Boys II (Universal, 2003), Beauty Shop (MGM, 2005) and War (Lion's Gate, 2007). |
