ps22chorus.blogspot.com On Wednesday, March 23, one month after their triumphant return from their winning performance at the Oscars, members of the PS22 Chorus were honored by NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Staten Island Borough President James Molinaro, Staten Island Advance editor Brian Laline, and several political leaders throughout the city, Principal Melissa Donath, their parents, and their fifth grade classmates! The kids were given plaques and certificates galore, and it was a proud and meaningful tribute to all those who worked so hard to make this dream come true. The kids performed several 4 songs including "Kids" by MGMT, "Livin' on a Prayer" by Bon Jovi, "Firework" by Katy Perry, and "True North" by Mr. B. Fantastic solos were performed by Azaria, Kurria, and Denise respectively, while our little drummer boy, Marquis, contributed his prodigious percussive skills! Check out highlights from the celebration below with footage filmed by our beloved Ms. Lisa!

Borough President James P. Molinaro joined Mayor Bloomberg and Department of Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan to help fill the "two-millionth" pothole of the Bloomberg Administration on Slater Boulevard in Midland Beach. In the wake of February's snowstorms that hit Staten Island particularly hard, DOT has launched a pothole repair blitz, filling between 3000 and 4000 potholes a day citywide. To reduce the occurence of potholes and keep streets and roadways smooth, DOT maintains an aggressive schedule to resurface streets throughout all five boroughs. The agency repaved 570 lane miles of streets citywide from July to December, leaving it on track to pave 825 lane miles by the close of the fiscal year. To report a pothole, call the Borough President's Helpline at (718) 816-2000 or 311.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Borough President James P. Molinaro toured storm damage in New Dorp after a NorEaster struck the Island on March 13. Joined by Staten Island elected officials and City agency heads, the Mayor and Borough President viewed damage to a recently-installed playground at PS 41, and took note of several downed trees in the surrounding neighborhood. Out of the 5 Boroughs, Staten Island bore the brunt of the storm, with thousands of homes losing power and numerous trees and power lines causing damage to homes and businesses. Con Ed has been working to restore power to all affected customers, and tree removal is ongoing. The Mayor and Borough President urged residents to have patience, as the sheer magnitude of the storm has made it time-consuming to restore power to all affected customers. Residents are urged to report power outages to Con Ed at 800-75-CONED, while fallen trees and storm damage should be reported to 311. Borough President Molinaros HelpLine is available from 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday, to assist Island residents in the aftermath of the storm. The HelpLine can be reached by calling 718-816-2000.
