... and Senator Joe Lieberman, and Senator John McCain and Senators Inhofe, Kyl, Lott, Craig, Hatch, Stevens, Bond & Cochran, not to mention the Senate Leadership of both parties - Harry Reid and Mitch McConnell. Chuck Hagel on the floor of the Senate exposing the hypocrisy of Senators who claim the Warner non-binding resolution is "unprecedented", "ambiguous", "inconsistent". Hagel shows that many of the Senators making these claims supported and sponsored similar resolutions when Clinton was President. Remarks by Senator Chuck Hagel (R-Nebraska) before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on January 24, 2007. He asked his colleagues in the Senate to state what they believe and what they were willing to support, told them that if they were too fearful of doing so then they should "go sell shoes," and compared the Iraq conflict to a "grinder." Senator Chuck Hagel, Republican from Nebraska, speaks on the Senate floor: "Congress fails in its duty when we do not probe, we fail when we do not ask tough questions, and we fail when we do not debate the great issues of our day. There is no issue more important than war. The war in Iraq is the defining issue on which this Congress and this administration will be judged. The American people want to see serious debate about serious issues from serious leaders. They deserve more than a political debate. This debate should transcend cynical attempts to turn public frustration with the war in Iraq into an electoral advantage. It should be taken more seriously than to simply retreat into focus-group tested buzz words and phrases like "cut and run",Ã" catchy political slogans that debase the seriousness of war. War is not a partisan issue, Mr. President. It should not be held hostage to political agendas. War should not be drug down into the political muck. America deserves better. Our men and women fighting and dying deserve better. "
