Great Goal from the half way line,Chris Maguire vs Iceland

Just 53 seconds after Iceland taking the lead against Scotland at Easter Road in the second leg of the play-off to reach the 2011 UEFA Under 21 Championship in Denmark, Chris Maguire took kickoff, turned, and struck at goal, lobbing the keeper with it landing in the back of the net. He could probably retire now after scoring that goal

By anyone's reckoning this is an incredible strike. Chris Maguire scored this goal from the halfway line at Easter Road during Scotland U21s vs Iceland U21s on 11th October 2010 - with an assist from Jamie Murphy. ;)

Chris Maguire's incredible goal from the halfway line was not enough to send Scotland into the European Under-21 Championship finals as Gylfi Sigurdsson netted a brilliant double to repeat Iceland's 2-1 first leg victory. Maguire netted surely one of the greatest goals ever witnessed at Easter Road as Scotland kicked off after Sigurdsson had opened the scoring with a curling effort from long range. But the Iceland midfielder, who joined Hoffenheim from Reading for £7million in the summer, soon fired a superb 78th-minute winner to secure a 4-2 aggregate victory. Billy Stark felt Maguire's spectacular strike was a reflection of the spirit of his Scotland Under-21 side as he claimed their defeat was a "travesty". "When you have worked so hard and you feel that we should be ahead, to produce that seconds after losing a goal is phenomenal," Stark said of the Aberdeen striker's goal. "Fair play to him, Chris did that, but I think that was a reflection of the way the players handled things throughout the campaign when they went behind. "You saw that, the players pushed on after losing the second goal. "It's a travesty that we lost that game. Whether we deserved to go through is another matter but to lose tonight was a travesty."
