Out of character for a BBC reporter, the reporter lays into New Labour's Chief Secretary to the Treasury dork Yvette Cooper with questions that she doesn't, can't or won't answer. Maybe she would start crying with the tough questioning. Recorded from BBC2's Budget coverage, Wednesday 22 April 2009

Gordon Brown sends Yvette Cooper, like a lamb to the slaughter, on Newsnight to defend the 10p tax U-turn by the Prime Minister. Turns out she doesn't know how many people will be affected or how they're going to pay for helping them out. What a surprise.

YES, THE MOON IS MADE OF CHEESE On this week's show, we learn from Michael Heseltine how giving away British sovereignty actually strengthens it and from Yvette Cooper on why having the biggest budget deficit in the developed world is good for this country. Bizarrely, right at the beginning, Heseltine accuses Farage of "not answering the question" even though his answer was "yes". Plus we have the usual smattering of "soak the rich" lefties who are clearly in need of a visit to the dentist and/or hairdresser. One audience member rants about Phillip Green's "Owlcadia" group - perhaps she doesnt like large employers in Britain. Yvette Cooper strangely refuses to answer Nigel's question on whether European Courts have supremacy over British law (Dimbleby lets her off the hook of course) and refuses to apologise for Gordon Brown's scorched earth strategy. For your benefit, most of Yvette's sanctimonious, irrelevant, high speed diatribe has been edited out so you can watch the main points of the programme without vomiting too much. There was another lady on the panel who is introduced by Dimbleby as "one of the most powerful women in Britain" even though I doubt if anyone actually knows who she is. Maybe he should introduce himself as the man who is paid 15000 pounds per show and see how that sits with his politically well balanced stooges...err, audience.

Labour's Yvette Cooper compares Liberal Democrat support for the Tory Budget to the story of The Emperor Has No Clothes: "The ministers are like fraudsters in the fairy tale telling vulnerable Liberal Democrat MPs about the beautiful, progressive clothes the emperor is wearing if only they are clever enough and loyal enough to see them..."
