Yannick Dalmas (born 28 July 1961 in Le Beausset, Var) is a former racing driver from France. He participated in 49 Formula One Grands Prix, debuting on 18 October 1987, but qualified for only 24 of them. His best result in F1 was a 5th place at the 1987 Australian Grand Prix, but he was not eligible for World Championship points at that race. His F1 career was blighted by his health issues, towards the end of 1988, Dalmas was diagnosed with Legionellosis which understandably caused him to miss the final two races. He recovered before the start of 1989 but his illness had clearly affected him.

After the 1990 Formula One Season, Dalmas left the series and began racing in Le Mans Prototypes. There he found much more success, winning the 24 Hours of Le Mans four times (in 1992, 1994, 1995 and 1999), each with different teams.

In 1994, Dalmas made a brief return to Formula One with Larrousse, but only entered two races. He crashed in Italy, and finished two laps off the lead in Portugal.

Yannick Dalmas who had not taken full advantage of his pole position at the start was not unduly worried. For his cockpit he could see that Stefano Modena's car's handling was graudually disimproving, thus the young Frenchman carefully bided hi stime. Suddenly Modena came out of the quickest part of the circuit alone! In fact a rear suspension joint had broken sending Dalmas into the guardrail at nearly 150mph, speading panic amongst the pack following the leaders. Dalmas ended up in the middoe of the road with the car's monocoque as, such the force of the impact, that the engine, gearbox and wheels has all been torn off. Miraculously he was almost unhurt apart from bruised kness and left hospital in the next morning.

The factory Dauer Porsche LM (Mauro Baldi, Yannick Dalmas and Hurley Haywood) crawls into the pits with some trouble with the driveshaft. The winning Dauer Porsche (Hans-Joachim Stuck, Thierry Boutsen and Danny Sullivan) goes into for a driver change with Sullivan going out to do his stint. Then Sullivan's Porsche launches him into a spin at the Ford Chicane as a result of a puncture. It would take the Porsche about 12 minutes to limp back to the pits.

Michele Alboreto, the driver of the works Porsche LMP1/98 (also driven by Stefan Johansson and Yannick Dalmas retires with electrical problems. At 9.00pm, the severely delayed Panoz Motor Sports GTR-1 (by Eric Bernard, Christophe Tinseau and Johnny O'Connell) , which had been in the pits for ages with gearbox problems and had rejoined the race, blotted its copy book again by hurling itself through the gravel at the Ford chicane. It carried on for a full lap, then pitted, was hoovered out and is now back in the race again. The Porsche 911 GT1-98 (driven by Jörg Müller, Uwe Alzen and Bob Wollek) made an embarrassing mistake as it leaves the pits after a routine stop, only to spin off at Dunlop Curve. He staggered through the gravel onto the service road and escaped. Thankfully, the car wasnt too delayed as it soon came back into the track. He couldnt even blame it on cold tyres since they hadnt actually been changed!
