Wiluna is a complex town in the Mid West region of Western Australia. It is situated on the edge of the Western Desert at the gateway to the Canning Stock Route and Gunbarrel Highway. It is the service centre of the local area for the local Aboriginal people, the pastoral industry, mining, and many more people work on mines in the area on a "fly-in/fly-out" basis. Wiluna's climate is hot and dry, with an annual rainfall of just 254 mm (10 in). Mean maximum temperatures range from 19°C (66°F) in July, to 38°C (100°F) in January.

Entry from: Wiluna, Australia Entry Title: "Goodbye Gunbarrel!" Entry: "We made it! This travel blog will contain his and her version of the last few days as we traversed the Gunbarrel Highway. We both say it was pretty much as we expected! She says it was miles and miles of b... corrugations and too much red dust. Things got all shook up in the car and campertrailer until our biscuits were reduced to crumbs. Our trouble have been manageable so I guess thats the main thing! I cant believe its only taken me a week to go so "feral". On a positive note we have seen some beaut scenery and had great weather - not like Adelaide we hear. In July and August 2009, students from Wiluna Remote Community School joined artists Jessie Borrelle and Jon Tjhia for Awesome Arts' Open Book Creative Challenge. The students explored sound recording (using portable digital recorders, computers and cassette recorders) as a way of sharing stories, creating music and expressing their very unique personalities. After two weeks with the visiting artists, the kids (from years 5 to 11) had produced a sound story and a large hand-drawn mural map of Wiluna. In part 2, you'll hear the students talk about how they made their song. Based on short recordings of their voices and noises they made with their bodies, the kids recorded loops (using an Akai sampler) and wrote raps to introduce themselves to the world. And, of course, there's a bunch of jokes and stories too. Part 1: www.youtube.com

I spent 3 weeks in August on an outback ex-sheep station. Looking for a way to work alongside Indigenous Communities, I found my life purpose.
