St George's Chapel is the place of worship at Windsor Castle in England, United Kingdom. It is both a royal peculiar and the chapel of the Order of the Garter. The chapel is governed by the Dean and Canons of Windsor.

The chapel is located in the Lower Ward of the castle, which is one of the principal residences of Queen Elizabeth II.

The day to day running of the chapel is the responsibility of the religious College of St George, which is directed by a chapter of the dean and four canons, assisted by a clerk, virger (traditional spelling of verger) and other staffers. The Society of the Friends of St George's and Descendants of the Knights of the Garter, a registered charity, was established in 1931 to assist the College in maintaining the chapel.

Interesting clip on Henry VIII's simple grave. Henry had planned for himself, and for his third wife Jane Seymour, a grand tomb that would enforce his perceived greatness and power. It would contain a great triumphal arch bearing a statue of the king on horseback. There would also be presentations of himself and Jane in a manner similar to the way in which his parents were depicted in their own tomb in Westminster Abbey. At the very top of the whole tomb (at twenty-eight feet above the ground), there would be an image of God holding the king's soul in his left hand. The whole monument was to be situated in St George's Chapel, Windsor. The tomb was never completed. Some portions were made and were even erected but it was defaced, dismantled and sold of in pieces during the English Civil War. All that remains of the tomb today are copies of the four brass candlesticks. A marble slab was later placed on the site of the grave marking the burial not only of Henry and Jane, but also Charles I and one of Queen Annes infants: www.flickr.com The base of the structure, a black marble sarcophagus and platform, was relocated to St Paul's Cathedral in 1808 to form the tomb of Lord Nelson (as is seen in the clip). For a man so confident of his own power and worth it is somewhat amusing and ironic that he is buried in so simple a fashion. Henry may have failed to secure for himself the grand tomb that he had carefully planned and failed to portray himself in death as the godly reformer ...

'Magnificat', from Third Service, Thomas Tomkins(1572-1656) The Choir of St. George's Chapel comprises 23 boy choristers and twelve Lay Clerks singing alto, tenor and bass. The boys are educated at St George's School which is situated in the Castle grounds, and the Lay Clerks live in the Horseshoe Cloister, just to the west of the Chapel, and on Denton's Commons. St George's Chapel exists to provide a place to give thanks to Almighty God and to pray for the Sovereign and the Most Noble Order of the Garter, and the work of the choir is central to that aim. The choir was founded at the same time as the founding of the College in 1348 and, with the exception of the Commonwealth period (1649-60), has sung the services continuously since then. The choir sings regularly in the presence of the Queen and other members of the Royal family, and in recent times sang at the marriage of Prince Edward and Sophie Rhys-Jones; it sang also at a concert in celebration of the seventieth birthday of Her Majesty the Queen, and at celebrations for the eightieth birthday of HRH the Duke of Edinburgh. The choir sang at the funeral of Princess Margaret in St George's and also at the Thanksgiving service for her life held in Westminster Abbey.

Along the M4 up to Windsor Castle, to see the Royal Band play outside the front, and then into St George's Chapel to see the burial places of former royalty including Queen Elizabeth and St George IV. There are planes taking off from Heathrow Airport, including some British Airways planes and a Quantas. Then onto the Buckingham Palace Doll's House.

I take a day trip out to the small town of Windsor and Eton to visit the royal residence Windsor Castle. It's still used today by the Queen on weekends and for other royal events. I check out St. George's Chapel, the royal apartments and Queen Mary's Doll's House. Quite a sight to see if you ever come out this way.
