The organ (from Greek όργανον organon, "organ, instrument, tool"), is a keyboard instrument of one or more divisions, each played with its own keyboard operated either with the hands or with the feet. The organ is a relatively old musical instrument in the Western musical tradition, dating from the time of Ctesibius of Alexandria who is credited with the invention of the hydraulis. By around the 8th century it had overcome early associations with gladiatorial combat and gradually assumed a prominent place in the liturgy of the Catholic Church; subsequently it has re-emerged as a secular and recital instrument.

Bach's most famous organ piece, with a bar-graph score. FAQ Q: Can I download a version to play on my computer/iPod/iPad/iPhone/etc.? A: Yes, you can get that here: musanim.cerizmo.com Q: Where can I get free sheet music for this piece? A: Sheet music for this can be found here: tinyurl.com Q: Who wrote Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D Minor? Q: Isn't that like asking who's buried in Grant's Tomb? A: Heh-heh. A theory has recently (1981) been put forth that JS Bach did not write this piece. A brief summary of the supporting evidence for this theory can be read here: en.wikipedia.org Q: What's wrong with synchronization? A: I don't know, but it appears that if you use this URL, it works better: www.youtube.com Q: Where can I get the mp3 of this? A: You can download it here: www.musanim.com Q: What does the piece look like as a whole? A: There are versions you can print out here www.musanim.com The 'scroll' version is for cutting out and taping together to form a long strip. Q: Where can I get the MIDI file that this was made from? A: I'm not sure it's exactly the same, but the closest I could find was this: www.musanim.com Q: Hey, what happened to my question/comment? A: Questions answered in the FAQ, and comments with nothing to do with the video ("spam"), are removed. If you posted a comment and don't know why it's gone, email me (stephen at musanim dot com) with "YouTube comment" in the subject line. Q: How did you make this video? Soundtrack at tinyurl.com Performed on original instruments by San Francisco Early Music Ensemble Voices of Music. Featuring Katherine Kyme, Carla Moore & Cynthia Freivogel, baroque violin; Tanya Tomkins, baroque cello, Hanneke van Proosdij, baroque organ; David Tayler, theorbo. About the performance: the canon is played using not only the instruments but also the bowing techniques from the time of Pachelbel. As you can see from the video, especially if you look at the high definition version, the string instruments are not only baroque, but they are in baroque setup: this means that the strings, fingerboard, bridge and other parts of the violin appear just as they did in Pachelbel's time. No metal hardware such as chinrests, clamps or fine tuners are used on the violins, allowing the violins to vibrate freely. A good example of baroque bowing can be seen in the extended passage of repeated notes: the musicians play these notes on one bowâthe shorter & lighter baroque bowâto created a gliding effect. The players also hold the bow very differently which affects the balance and touch. Both the style and the amount of vibrato are based on baroque treatises which describe the methods for playing, bowing & articulation in the late 17th century. The narrow, shimmering vibrato blends with the baroque organ. The organ used is made entirely of wood ...

This is a 'Pirates of the Caribbean' Medley played live on the Roland Music Atelier Organ which is really the most awesome keyboard instrument in the world. It is a "one man orchestra." Atelier is a French word meaning "a studio especially for an artist or designer" and this is truly the ultimate keyboard made for a musical artist or musical designer. Everything is played live on the instrument, nothing is pre-recorded, no tracks, no automatic accompaniments. Everything you hear you can see played on one of the two keyboards and/or pedal board. The percussion comes from the keys on the lower keyboard or the pedal board. Since there are a limited number of these made, I only had a few days to practice and prepare this piece. There are a few mistakes, but they are also part of what prove that I am playing it live. I made this arrangement myself of what I consider the best of the music from the first two movies. In the video you can see several screen shots of the sound setups used, and the names of the pieces as they occur. The pieces in the medley are: The Medallion Calls, Jack Sparrow, Two Hornpipes, Davy Jones Plays His Organ, and He's a Pirate. If you want the music, there are books available from all 3 movies in piano solo or easy piano format. I based my arrangements from the music in these books. They are published by Hal Leonard and you can most likely purchase them from your local music store or order them from an online retailer. Go to the publisher's website www ...

voicesofmusic.org Support our Videos! Soundtrack available here goo.gl Air on the G String: Bach's timeless work, performed on original instruments by San Francisco Early Music Ensemble Voices of Music and accompanied by a montage of the most beautiful images of deep space. Visit us at www.voicesofmusic.org for more videos and concert information. Featuring Elizabeth Blumenstock and Katherine Kyme, baroque violins; Lisa Grodin, baroque viola, Joanna Blendulf, baroque cello; William Skeen, violone; Hanneke van Proosdij, chamber organ; David Tayler, theorbo. Every effort has been made to recreate the original ensemble that performed this piece. This includes using the original violins, viola, cello, baroque organ with German style pipes and wind chest, as well as the strings and baroque bows. A characteristic pitch of 415.3 Hz was chosen which is lower than the modern Concert pitch of 440Hz. This pitch favors the colors of the baroque strings and Continuo. Bowing patterns, articulation, trills and ornamentation are all based on German baroque performance practice. Quite some years ago a bride requested this for her wedding processional. At that time, no sheet music for the complete organ solo had been published (but it has been published since then). Lacking printed music for it I transcribed it by ear, listening over and over to the record. The bride and I did agree that the sequé into "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria" should be eliminated! So I ended the music by resolving it on V/I chords just before that part came in. Incidentlly, the organ sequence was composed by Ashley Miller and played (most likely by Miller) -- not on the beautiful organ in the cathedral (*) where the scene was shot, but on the now-gone Robert Morton pipe organ in the former Lorin Whitney Studio in Glendale, California. Yes folks, that glorious "cathedral organ" was really a theatre organ (Wurlitzer type) played without tremulants! Organists familiar with that sound -- theatre organs sans trems -- who listen to that track with this knowledge now in hand will clearly recognize that that's what they are hearing. "That's show biz!" ------- (*) The Mondsee Cathedral in Salzburg, founded in 748 AD on the ruins of a Roman settlement. The oldest German translation of the Bible was written here - the Mondsee Matthew. In the wedding scene, Maria, led by Liesl, walked down the aisle to meet the Baron von Trapp in front of the main altar. The first time they filmed the scene, there was nobody at the altar to wed them when they reached the top of the stairs ...
