Norwalk is a suburban city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 105,549 at the 2010 census, up from 103,298 at the 2000 census, making it the 58th most populous city in California and the 255th nationally.

Founded in the late 19th century, Norwalk was incorporated in as a city in 1957. It is located 17 mi (27.4 km) southeast of downtown Los Angeles, and 12 mi (19.3 km) northwest of Garden Grove.

Norwalk operates under a Council/Manager form of government, established by the Charter of the City of Norwalk which was drafted in 1957. The five-member City Council acts as the City's chief policy-making body. Every two years, Councilmembers are elected by the citizens of Norwalk to serve four-year, overlapping terms. Councilmembers are not limited to the number of terms they may serve. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves a one-year term.

Norwalk is a member of the Gateway Cities Council of Governments. Norwalk's sister cities are Morelia, Michoacán, and Hermosillo, Sonora, in Mexico.

Amber Nicklas, who turns 8 this month, was snatched from a Los Angeles-area restaurant in 2003 and found Wednesday night in a home in north Phoenix that also served as a palm reading business. The girl was emotional after being taken from the home but appeared in good health, police said Thursday. Investigators later discovered through interviews that she was kept out of school and could not read. Amber remained in protective custody Thursday in Los Angeles and it was not clear if she would be reunited with her foster parents. Authorities have not released any names or filed any charges but continue to investigate. "This girl was taken away from the only parents and family that she knows yesterday," said Phoenix police Sgt. Trent Crump. "It was very traumatizing to the girl." Investigators believe the couple were trying to hide Amber, noting that they changed the girl's name and birth date and she was found under a pile of clothes when authorities searched the home Wednesday. Amber was 1 when she was abducted from her foster parents on Sept. 21, 2003, by three juvenile aunts during a visit to a Chuck E.
