This is the 78 minute German language version with English subtitles. Apparently the original version was in English and 89 minutes long. The film tells part of the story (almost entirely fictional historians now believe) of the Children's Crusade of 1212. Eschewing violence, a group of children led by shepherd boy Jacques de Cloyes (John Fordyce), and supported by Maud (Jenny Agutter), hoped to win the Holy Land back for Christendom by their faith and innocence alone. A guilt-wracked former crusader, now a monk (Lionel Stander, Max from Hart to Hart), joins the new crusaders to hear their confessions. It turns out the motivations of the youngsters are not always as pure as they first appear. This piece is primarily of interest for Jenny fans, so it seems like sacrilege to dub her precious voice into German! But it's a rare film, so never mind that for now, the visuals don't disappoint. Note that Jenny's role is confined to the first half hour. After that the storyline becomes more unsavoury than you might expect - definitely missable in fact.

The series was created by writer Sidney Sheldon and produced by Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg. It ran from 1979 to 1984 on the ABC Television Network. Jonathan Hart (Robert Wagner) was a self-made millionaire and the CEO of Hart Industries, a Los Angeles-based global conglomerate. His wife Jennifer (Stefanie Powers) was a beautiful freelance journalist. Living the jetset lifestyle, the glamorous couple spent their free time as amateur detectives and in every episode they found themselves involved in cases of smuggling, theft, international espionage, or most commonly, murder. At their opulent California home, they were assisted by Max (Lionel Stander), their loyal, gravelly-voiced butler, cook, and chauffeur who also helped out in their "cases." The Hart's beloved pet dog was "Freeway," so named because he was a stray they had rescued when he was found wandering on the freeway. Screenwriter and novelist Sidney Sheldon had originally written a script for CBS entitled Double Twist about a married couple who were also both spies. The script remained unfilmed for several years before producers Aaron Spelling and Leonard Goldberg decided to update the idea for a potential television series. They offered the script to screenwriter Tom Mankiewicz, who had by that time written several screenplays including three of the James Bond films. I like him best in Roman Polanski's Cul-de-sac (a starring part no less). In The Cassandra Crossing (1976), dir. George P. Cosmatos Stander plays a Swiss train conductor. The uniform (no longer in use here, alas) seems genuine down to the last button. He has many stars on board (Sofia Loren, Ava Gardner, Martin Sheen, OJ Simpson, Lee Strasberg, you name it), and, what's more, a deadly disease. He behaves in a truly Swiss fashion: rational and unheroic.
