0.97 min. | 0 user rating		 Apple Valley City Council meets tonight The Apple Valley City Council meets tonight at 8 pm at City Hall (7100 W. 147th St.). A pre-meeting work session begins at 6:30 pm Agenda items for tonight include filling a vacancy on the Urban Affairs Committee and participation in the Dakota County Intelligent Community Initiative. This initiative will work to increase economic competitiveness of the region by focusing on things like broadband networks and having a technically skilled workforce. In closed session, the city council will also discuss litigation involving Dakota County. The county is suing the city in order to get a court ruling on who owns a 30-foot-wide strip of right-of-way at Cedar Avenue and 147th Street. More than 30 years ago the city platted the land to become part of the lot where Piston Petes gas station now stands. When researching property records for expansion of Cedar Avenue to accommodate bus rapid transit, the county discovered the issue. The county believes the city may have unrightfully vacated a county right-of-way.

During the month of February, tributes to Abe Lincoln, George Washington and Cupid will share display space at the local library. Both of the past presidents' birthdays land in this month, along with Presidents Day on Feb. 15. Fridley Historical Society board members Dorothy Gargaro (not pictured) and Peter Bonesteel - with the help of his wife, Mary - assembled the display. The display features two old-time model towns, postcards, and candy boxes from Valentine's Days in years past. Another item of interest is a replica model of the Lincoln funeral train car, which was destroyed in a Columbia Heights wild fire about a century ago.
