Laurel is a city in Yellowstone County, Montana, United States. It is part of the Billings, Montana Metropolitan Statistical Area, and is located in the Yellowstone Valley, as an east-west terminal division point of the Burlington-Northern Railroad.. The population was 6,781 at the 2010 census.

Both Interstate 90 and a number of local railroads run through Laurel. It is most known for its industry and agriculture, but also has a historic shopping district.

Laurel is home to a Cenex Harvest States oil refinery and Montana Rail Link's Laurel Yard, the largest rail yard between St. Paul, Minnesota and Pasco, Washington.

Heading home from school on Christmas Eve, I caught up with the Missoula-Laurel as it passed through Big Timber, MT. The temperature outside was anywhere from -15 below to 25 above zero. At the east switch of Greycliff, the temp was 20 degrees but as it usually does, the wind was blowing. The train was run down the siding for a meet with a westbound BNSF manifest and the crew was authorized to proceed past the stop signal and line the switch manually, probably due to the blowing snow. I rolled down the window, set the camera on the tripod, and hit record. Then I rolled the window back up to keep warm while the conductor had to get out in the cold and throw the switch. I came upon the LM at Logan, Montana making a pickup. I headed up the Missouri to Lombard, MT, where the ex-Milwaukee Road mainline to Tacoma crossed the Missouri River.
