Mosquito larvae can be found in standing water. The larvae rest suspended at the surface of the water. When they are disturbed, mosquito larvae dive for deeper water and move by flexing their bodies, a habit which has earned them the label wiggler. You can see both resting and wiggling larvae in the water - surrounded by the petals of crabapple flowers that have fallen in the pond. **It is very important to remove potential breeding sources - standing, stagnant water. After this fiming, the pond was emptied, cleaned and refilled with fresh water. Mosquito-eating fish were added to help reduce the possibility of this pond being a source for mosquito problems. **For more information on mosquitoes and their control, visit UNL Extension in Lancaster County at lancaster.unl.edu **In the US, you can contact your local extension office for assistance, find your office here lancaster.unl.edu
